What is happening?
THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL OF STOCKPORT (A34 KINGSWAY, STOCKPORT) (TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF SHARED USE PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLE PATH) NOTICE 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport proposes to make an Order not less than 7 days from the date of this Notice under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, the effect of which will be to introduce a Temporary Closure of the Shared Use Pedestrian and Cycle Path at A34 Kingsway, from Royal Crescent to Foxland Road, whilst traffic signs to that effect are in place on or near the said path. This Order is necessary to enable highway improvement works to take place. It is estimated these works will last 26 weeks. A diversion will be provided for pedestrians and cyclists via the subway from Royal Crescent to Schools Hill, A34 Kingsway, and the subway from Broadway to Foxland Road. This Order is to come into operation on 1 June 2026 and will have effect for eighteen months, provided that if all necessary works are completed within a shorter period this Order shall cease to have effect at the end of that shorter period.
