What is happening?

THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL OF STOCKPORT (COWLISHAW ROAD, ROMILEY NO.2) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) NOTICE 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport has made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, the effect of which introduced a Temporary Prohibition of Driving at Cowlishaw Road, Romiley, from the junction of the footpath from Far Benfield Farm to Cowlishaw Road in a southerly direction for approximately 30 metres, whilst traffic signs to that effect are in place on or near the said road. This Order is necessary to allow pole works and maintenance checks to take place. It is estimated these works will last 1 day. A diversion will be provided via Werneth Low Road, Greave, Sandy Lane, Compstall Road, and vice versa. This Order does not apply to any vehicle on any occasion when it is being used for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes. This Order also does not apply to pedestrians or pedal cycles. Local access will be maintained. This Order will come into operation on the 21 May 2026 and will have effect for eighteen months, provided that if all necessary works are completed within a shorter period this Order shall cease to have effect at the end of that shorter period.
