What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14(1)(a) AND (7)

THE M6 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 6 TO JUNCTION 4)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the M6 Motorway in the City of Birmingham, the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull and in the County of Warwickshire to enable bridge joint repairs, resurfacing and lighting work to be carried out.

The effect of the order will be to –
(1) close –

(a) the southbound carriageway of the M6 from its junction with the exit slip road at Junction 6, to its junction with the link road leading from the northbound carriageway of the M42 at Junction 7a;

(b) the link road leading from A38 Aston Expressway to the southbound carriageway of the M6, at Junction 6;

(c) the link road leading from A38 Aston Expressway to the northbound carriageway of the M6, at Junction 6;

(d) the link road leading from Salford Circus to the southbound carriageway of the M6 at Junction 6;

(e) the entry slip road leading to the southbound carriageway of the M6 at Junction 5; 

(f) the exit slip road leading from the northbound carriageway of the M6 at Junction 5, and

(g) the exit slip road leading from the southbound carriageway of the M6 at Junction 4;

(2) close lanes of the southbound carriageway of the M6 from a point 100 metres northeast of the centreline of the western underbridge of the roundabout junction of Bromford Lane, Heartlands Parkway and Fort Parkway, near Castle Bromwich, to a point 100 metres northeast of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the entry slip road at Junction 5, and allow traffic to use the hard shoulder.

The work will be carried out overnight between 21:00 hours and 06:00 hours and is expected start on Monday 18 May 2026 and continue for approximately four months. The Order will come into force on 15 May 2026.

Vehicles being used for police, fire and rescue authority, ambulance or traffic officer purposes and vehicles being used in connection with the works will be exempt from the closures.

Diversion routes via Salford circus roundabout, Tyburn Road, the A38 Kingsbury Road, the A452 and alternative junctions of the M6 will be signed.
