What is happening?

Temporary Traffic Management Order, Unnamed Road, Hilfield 

DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. 

It will come into operation on 04 June 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however, it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 18 June 2026. 

This Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out surface treatment works. 

The effect of the Order is as follows: [1] To impose a temporary road closure on UNNAMED ROAD, HILFIELD, between its junction with Hilfield Lane and Hilfield Road, a distance of approximately 1420 metres. 

[2]To impose a parking suspension, as indicated by signs on site, to prevent parking on the highway along UNNAMED ROAD, HILFIELD, between its junction with Hilfield Lane and Hilfield Road, a distance of approximately 1420 metres. 

[3] To impose a clearway, as indicated by signs on site, to prevent waiting on the highway along UNNAMED ROAD, HILFIELD, between its junction with Hilfield Lane and Hilfield Road, a distance of approximately 1420 metres. 

A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed sections. Notice of Confirmation of Public Path Diversion and Definitive Map and Statement Modification Order 

Town and Country Planning Act 1990, Section 257

Dorset Council (Footpath 33 (part) and Footpath 78, Gillingham) Public Path Diversion Order 2025

On 01 May 2026 Dorset Council confirmed the above order. Whilst this order is confirmed it is not yet operational, by virtue of Article 2 of the order. The effect of the order as confirmed is to divert  Footpath 33 (part) and Footpath 78, Gillingham as shown on the order map as follows: 

From the current routes: 
Footpath 33 Gillingham  The full width of the footpath from the unaffected part of Footpath 33 at ST 8184 2506 generally north, north west and north west to ST 8179 2534, then generally north, north west to the unaffected part of Footpath 33 at ST 8177 2543. 

(the path width is 1.5m) 
Footpath 78. Gillingham 
The full width of the footpath from ST 8179 2534, generally south east to ST 8204 2514. (No recorded width) 

To the new routes: 
Footpath 33 From the unaffected part of Footpath 33 at point ST 8184 2506 running generally west for approx. 87 metres to ST 8176 2508 then north, north east then north for approx. 160 metres to ST 8179 2523 then north east for approx. 16 metres to ST 8180 2524 then north for approx. 25 metres to ST 8180 2527 then north west and north for approx. 77 metres to ST 8179 2534 then north, north east for approx. 28 metres to ST 8178 2538 then north west for approx. 22 metres to ST 8178 2540 then north, north east for approx. 19 metres to ST 8178 2542 then north west for approx. 17 metres to rejoin the unaffected part of Footpath 33 at ST 8177 2543. Footpath 78 
From its junction with Footpath 33 at ST 8180 2524 generally east for approx. 83 metres to ST 8188 2524 then north east for approx. 80 metres to ST 8196 2526 then south, south east for approx. 114 metres to ST 8201 2516 then south east for approx. 32 metres to ST 8204 2514 on Cole Street Lane. Width 3 metres. Footpath 98 (New Footpath) 

From its junction with Footpath 33 at ST 8184 2506 along a tarmac/paved path generally east for approx. 22 metres to ST 8186 2506 then north east for approx. 26 metres to ST 8188 2508 then north east for approx. 153 metres to its junction with Footpath 78 at ST 8201 2516. Width 1.8 metres.

The order comes into force on the date on which Dorset Council certify that the terms of Article 2 of the order have been complied with but if any person aggrieved by the order desires to question its validity or that of any provision contained in it on the ground that it is not within the powers of the above Act, or on the ground that any requirement of that Act or any regulation made under it has not been complied with in relation to the confirmation of the order. He or she may apply to the High Court for any of these purposes under section 287 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 within 6 weeks from the date on which notice is first published as required by paragraph 7 of 
Schedule 14 to the Act.

The County of Dorset (Various Roads, Gillingham) 
(20mph Speed Limit) (No. 13) Order 2026 

Dorset Council has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended.

When the Order comes into operation on 22nd May 2026 the effect of the Order will be to introduce 20mph speed limits along sections of various roads in Gillingham.

The County of Dorset 
(Various Roads, Stour Provost) (20mph and 40mph Speed Limits) (No.12) Order 2026 

Dorset Council has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended. When the Order comes into operation on the 19th May 2026 the effect of the Order will be to introduce 20mph and 40mph speed limits along sections of various roads in Stour Provost.
