TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A303 Trunk Road in the County of Hampshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order is to:-
1. authorise -
a) the overnight closure of the eastbound carriageway of the A303 between Parkhouse Cross Interchange (A338) and Thruxton Village Junction;
b) the overnight closure of the westbound carriageway of the A303 between Hundred Acre Interchange (A342/A343) and Parkhouse Cross Interchange (A338); and
c) the 24 hour closure of all lay-bys adjacent to the lengths of carriageway described in articles 1a) and 1b) above.
2. Impose a 24-hour 50mph speed limit on -
a) the eastbound carriageway of the A303 between a point approximately 2440 metres east of the centreline of the Salisbury Road (A338) underbridge and a point approximately 351 metres east of the centreline of the Church Lane underbridge;
b) the westbound carriageway of the A303 between points approximately 188 metres and 1630 metres west of the centreline of the Bush Farm Lane underbridge; and
c) the slip road leading from the westbound carriageway of the A303 at Quarley Junction.
3. Impose a 24-hour width restriction of 2.0 metres in lane 2 on –
a) the eastbound carriageway of the A303 between a point approximately 3420 metres east of the centreline of the Salisbury Road (A338) underbridge and a point approximately 248 metres east of the centreline of the Church Lane underbridge;
b) the westbound carriageway of the A303 between a point approximately 1030 metres west of the centreline of the Bush Farm Lane underbridge and a point approximately 445 metres west of the centreline of the Church Lane underbridge.
These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake parapet repairs on the Kimpton Quarley underbridge and all associated works.
It is expected that work will last for approximately 5 weeks starting on or after Tuesday 26th May 2026. The overnight closures will take place between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period), and will be for setting up and removing the traffic management only.
The Order will come into force on 24th May 2026 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Through traffic affected by the closures will be diverted using the A338, B3084, A3026, A342, Grateley Drove, Church Lane, Bush Farm Lane, Wiremead Lane and Amesbury Road.
The temporary closures, speed and width restrictions, and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
