What is happening?

MANCHESTER CITY COUNCIL
TEMPORARY ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 SECTION 14 (AS AMENDED)

Notice is hereby given that the City Council has made the following Temporary Road Traffic Order(s):

ORDER NO. MCC000 149777818 : The City of Manchester (Portland Street, Deansgate Ward)(Temporary Closure of Bus Lane) Order 2026under s14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of the Order is to prohibit any bus, taxi or pedal cycle from proceeding at any time in the following length of bus lane: Portland Street from 96 Portland Street to Princess Street. The City Council is satisfied that this prohibition is necessary in order to lay 27m of ducting for BT Network. It is expected that the works will be in progress on the 17th May 2026 only. The order shall come into operation on 17th May 2026 and may remain in force for a maximum period of eighteen months. If all necessary works are completed within a shorter period, the Order shall cease to have effect at the end of that shorter period.

ORDER NO. MCC000 149804938 : The City of Manchester (Fairfield Street, Piccadilly Ward) (Temporary Suspension of Bus Lane) Order 2026under s14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of the Order is to suspend the operation of the bus lane on Fairfield Street between Baring Street & Opposite Piccadilly Station thereby permitting the use of that part of the carriageway by all motor vehicles. The City Council is satisfied that this suspension is necessary in order create a Temporary Taxi Rank facilitate adjacent carriageway improvement works.
It is expected that the works will be in progress from 18th May 2026 to 22nd June 2026. The order shall come into operation on 18th May 2026 and may remain in force for a maximum period of eighteen months. If all necessary works are completed within a shorter period, the Order shall cease to have effect at the end of that shorter period.
