Southampton - Temporary Road Closures & Traffic Restrictions Due To Highway Scheme Improvements

What is happening?

SOUTHAMPTON CITY COUNCIL

THE CITY OF SOUTHAMPTON (VARIOUS ROADS) (ROAD CLOSURE) (013/67) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that in accordance with Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 Southampton City Council intends to make the above Order.

1. The effect of the Order will be:

a) To close the following lengths of road:

Above Bar Street Its junction with Pound Tree Road Its junction with Civic Centre Road Civic Centre Road, Havelock Road, Cumberland Place, Brunswick Place, Charlotte Place, Palmerston Road and Pound Tree Road
Above Bar Street Its junction with Civic Centre Road Its junction with Commercial Road Civic Centre Road, New Road, St Andrews Road and Charlotte Place, Brunswick Place
Civic Centre Road Its junction with Above Bar Street Its junction with Havelock Road Havelock Road, Cumberland Place, Brunswick Place, Charlotte Place, St Andrews Road and New Road
New Road Its junction with Above Bar Street Its junction with East Park Terrace New Road, St Andrews Road, Charlotte Place, Brunswick Place, Cumberland Place and Havelock Road

b) To introduce no waiting restrictions on Park Walk (east side) from its junction with New Road to 20m north of its junction with New Road.

c) To introduce no waiting restrictions except taxis on Civic Centre Road (south side) from its junction with Above Bar Street to its junction with Windsor Terrace.

d) To suspend the following prohibited movements:

2. The Order is required because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road. These works are to complete Highway Scheme Improvements.

3. The alternative route(s) will be as shown above.

4. The Order will come into force on 1st June 2026 and has a maximum duration of 18 months or until the completion of the works, whichever is sooner. It is expected that the works will be completed by 24th July 2026.
