ROAD) & M6 (NORTHBOUND TO M55

WESTBOUND LINK ROAD)

(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND

PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M55 Motorway, in the City of Preston, in the County of

Lancashire, to enable resurfacing, road markings and stud replacement works and other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety. The Order will on the following sections of the M55 and M6 Motorways:

i.   impose a 50-mph speed limit on the M55 westbound carriageway, from a point 50 metres west of the entry slip road at J1,  to a point 164 metres west of the Sandy

Lane Bridge; ii. ban all traffic from the M55 westbound entry slip road at J1;

iii.  ban all traffic from the M6 northbound to M55 westbound link road, from the M6 northbound exit slip road at J32, to a point 72 metres east of the M55 westbound entry slip road at J1;

iv.  allow the hard shoulder adjacent to the M55 westbound carriageway, from a point 72 metres east of the westbound entry slip road at J1, to a point 82 metres west of the Sandy Lane Bridge to be used as a running lane. A 50-mph speed limit will be in force on the hard shoulder when used as a running lane, as indicated by traffic signs.

The restrictions and prohibitions are expected to be in place overnight, between 19:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Monday 8 June 2026 and ending on Thursday 16 July 2026.

However, work may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights until completed.

Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the M55 and M6 Motorways and local roads will be well signed.

The restriction will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibition will not apply to emergency services or works vehicles. The restriction and prohibition will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall, from time to time, be indicated by traffic signs.
