Lumley New Road - Temporary Road Closure & 40 mph Speed Limit Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (B1284 Lumley New Road, Woodstone Village) (Temporary Road Closure and Temporary 40 mph Speed Limit) Order 2025
The Council on 31/1/2025 made the above Order which became effective on 14/2/2025 under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit and restrict all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road in the manner described:
Temporary Road Closure: a 1028 metre length of the B1284 Lumley New Road, Woodstone Village from the roundabout with Unc 13.12 Scores Lane, proceeding in an easterly direction to the junction with Richmond Drive.
Temporary 40 mph Speed Limit: on an 842 metre length from the junction with Unc 13.12 Forge Lane, in an easterly direction to a point approximately 148 metres from the junction with Richmond Drive, to enable motorway bridge maintenance works to be undertaken.
Throughout the period of the closure, a diversion will be available to vehicular traffic from the east side of the closure in an easterly direction on the B1284 Lumley New Road, then north west on the A1052, then west on the A183 Chester Road, then south west on the A167, then east on the B1284 Lumley New Road to the western end of closure and vice versa.
The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works, that were due to commence on 14/2/2025, have been delayed and will now commence from Monday 18/5/2026 between 8pm and 6am and will be undertaken in 3 phases over 6 nights as follows:
Phase 1 a closure to eastbound traffic only, anticipated to be 1-2 nights,
Phase 2 a closure to westbound traffic only, anticipated to be 1-2 nights and
Phase 3 a full closure for 1-2 nights anticipated to be 1-2 nights.
On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
