Langley Moor - Temporary Footpath Closure Due To Widening Works

What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (Public Rights of Way, Footpath Number 87 Brandon & Byshottles Parish, Relly Gill Footbridge, Langley Moor) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2026

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all pedestrian and cycle traffic from proceeding on the following length of footpath. A 927 metre length of Footpath No. 87 Brandon & Byshottles Parish between B6302 Broom Lane and C18 Front Street, Langley Moor. (The route also incorporates part of National Cycle Network route 70) to enable widening works to be undertaken.

An alternative route will be available to pedestrian traffic from the northern side of the closure, from the road leading to Relly Farm/Relly Steading, easterly along Broom Lane to Broom Lane/Stonebridge Roundabout, then south westerly along the footway of A690, under the rail bridge, then north westerly on Front Street to the southern side of the closure and vice versa.

The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The proposed works are to commence on or after 1/6/2026 and are anticipated to be completed in 8 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
