Stanley - Temporary Road Closures Due To Gas Main Replacement Works

What is happening?

The County Council of Durham

(Lindon Road, Eastfields and Spen Street, Stanley) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road.

Lindon Road: A 127 metre length of road from the junction with Tyne Road to the rear of Number 28 Eastfields;

Eastfields: An 88 metre length of road from the rear of Number 28 Eastfields to the side of Number 94 Eastfields and

Spen Street: A 26 metre length of road from the junction of Garden Terrace to the junction with Garden Terrace

Rear to enable gas main replacement works to be undertaken. Throughout the period of the closure, a diversion will be available to vehicular traffic for Lindon Road/ Eastfields north on Tyne Road, then west on Smails Street and Eastfields. A diversion for Spen Street will be available south on Garden Terrace, then west on Smails Street and north on Tyne Road. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence from 8am on Monday 1/6/2026 and are anticipated to be completed in 17 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
