THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND
(CLOSURE OF FOOTPATH ON BEDFORD STREET HETTON-LE-HOLE)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 13th May 2026 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians along the footpath on Bedford Street, Hetton-le-Hole, from the western property boundary of 12 Bedford Street for a distance of 50 metres in a south westerly direction. The Order is required to enable the installation of new LV cables on on or near the footpath. The Order will come into operation on 1st June 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be 6 months, however it is estimated that the closures will only be in operation for 14 days from commencement of the works. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the above footpath (except personnel involved in the works and emergency service personnel attending an emergency call), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. Pedestrian access to affected properties will be maintained throughout the closure. A diversion for pedestrians will be provided via the adjacent highway network.
Dated 14th May 2026 Patrick Melia OBE, Chief Executive, Sunderland City Council, City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA
