What is happening?

THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND
(GROUP ORDER PHASE II) (VARIOUS RESTRICTIONS)
TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026


NOTICE is given that on 13th May 2026 Sunderland City Council made an Order under Sections 1, 2, 4, 32 and 33 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, by virtue of the Traffic Management Act 2004 and all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 of the Act. The effects of the Order, which comes into effect on 29th May 2026, are to: (i) Prohibit waiting at any time along the roads in Schedule 1; (ii) Prohibit stopping in a School Keep Clear Zone between Monday-Friday 8am-5pm (inclusive) along the roads in Schedule 2; and (iii) Revoke the Orders to the extent set out in the Revocations Schedule. Documents giving more detailed particulars of the Order may be inspected during normal opening hours at City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA, until six weeks have elapsed from the date on which the Order is made. Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Act or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or of any instrument made under the Act has not been complied with may within six weeks from the date on which the Order is made apply for the purpose to the High Court. Schedule 1 No Waiting At Any Time - Humbledon View East Back, Ashbrooke, Sunderland (i) the east side from the extended party property boundary of 16 & 17 Humbledon View, to a point 7.5 metres north of the extended party property boundary of 20 & 21 Humbledon View. Industrial Road, Hertburn, Washington, Sunderland (i) the east side from a point 43.5 metres north of the extended southern building line of unit number 24 Bridgewater Road, for a distance of 144.3 metres in a southerly direction. Mulgrave Drive, Sunderland (i) the north-west side from a point 9.8 metres north-east of the extended party property boundary of 33 & 34 Mulgrave Drive, for a distance of 16.0 metres in a north-easterly direction. (ii) the south-east side from a point 1.5 metres north-east of the extended party property boundary of 33 & 34 Mulgrave Drive, for a distance of 11.1 metres in a north-easterly direction. Nelson Close, Sunderland (i) the south side from a point 5.4 metres east of the extended party property boundary of 7 & 8 Peel Street, for a distance of 10.7 metres in an easterly direction. Silverbriar, Sunderland Enterprise Park, Sunderland (i) the north side from the extended eastern property boundary of 91 Silverbriar, for a distance of 41.4 metres in an easterly direction. (ii) the south side from the extended eastern property boundary of 91 Silverbriar, for a distance of 54.9 metres in an easterly direction. Sulgrave Road, Sulgrave, Washington, Sunderland (i) both sides from a point 16.0 metres east of the extended eastern property boundary of 25 & 26 Trafalgar Road, for a distance of 33.5 metres in an easterly direction. Tower Road, Glover, Washington, Sunderland (i) both sides from a point 11.5 metres north of the extended northern property boundary of 3 Cuthbert House, for a distance of 92.6 metres in a southerly direction. Whitefield Crescent, Houghton-le-spring, Sunderland (i) the north-west side from a point 1.7 metres north-east of the extended party property boundary of 11 Avondale Avenue and 1 Whitefield Crescent, to its north-eastern extent. (ii) the south-east side from the extended party property boundary of 11 Avondale Avenue and 1 Whitefield Crescent, to its north-eastern extent. Schedule 2 Prohibition of stopping - school keep clear Mon-Fri 8am-5pm Whitefield Crescent, Houghton-le-spring, Sunderland (i) the north-west side from a point 1.7 metres north-east of the extended party property boundary of 11 Avondale Avenue and 1 Whitefield Crescent, for a distance of 25.56 metres in a south-westerly direction.
