What is happening?

THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL

(BANKHEAD DRIVE AND BANKHEAD AVENUE AREA)

(TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTION AND TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026 - TEMP/26/87

The Council has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be that for a temporary period, to facilitate road & footway improvements for the West Edinburgh Link project, no person shall: (a) drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle on any part of the road specified in Schedule 1; (b) except upon the direction or with the permission of a police constable in uniform, drive or cause or permit any vehicle to be driven on the lengths of roads specified in column 1 of Schedule 2, otherwise than in the direction specified in column 2 of the said Schedule, provided that no more than one of the measures described in Schedule 2 shall be enacted at the same time; (c) except with the permission of a Parking Attendant, cause or permit any vehicle to wait, or load onto or unload from any vehicle on any part of the road specified in Schedule 3; & (d) walk or cause or permit any person to walk on any part of the footways specified in Schedule 4. The westbound bus lane on Bankhead Dr shall be suspended for the duration of this Order to facilitate westbound traffic and traffic management lane closures. Existing parking restrictions will be suspended on the affected section of road described in Schedule 3. The following Order “The City of Edinburgh Council (Bankhead Driver & Bankhead Avenue Area) Order 2025” is hereby revoked. The alternative route for through vehicular traffic in relation to the road closure of Bankhead ave is Bankhead Cway Nth, Bankhead Bdwy & Bankhead Dr. The alternative route for through vehicular traffic in relation to the one-way roads on: (a) Bankhead Dr is; (i) Bankhead Dr, Broomhouse Rd, Calder Rd & Bankhead Ave; (ii) Bankhead Bdwy, Bankhead Cway Nth, Bankhead Ave, Calder Rd & Broomhouse Rd; & (b) Bankhead ave is Bankhead Cway Nth, Bankhead Bdwy & Bankhead Dr. The alternative route for through pedestrian traffic in relation to the footway closure of: (a) Bankhead Dr, south side, is Bankhead Dr, north side; (b) Bankhead Dr, north side, is Bankhead Dr, south side; (c) sth Gyle access, east side, is Bankhead Dr, south side & Sth Gyle Access, west side; & (d) Bankhead ave, east side, is Bankhead Ave, west side. The Order shall have effect from 15/05/26 to 30/07/26 during the hours and dates specified in the Schedules.

SCHEDULE 1 ROAD CLOSURE

From 19:00hrs to 06:00hrs each day from 15/05/26 to 30/07/26 on: Bankhead ave, from the extended south kerbline of Bankhead Dr, southwards and then westwards for 230m.

SCHEDULE 2 ONE-WAY ROADS

00:00hrs on 15/05/26 to 23:59 hrs 30/07/26 on:

SCHEDULE 3 PROHIBITION OF WAITING, LOADING AND UNLOADING

From 00:00hrs on 15/05/26 to 23:59hrs 30/07/26 on Bankhead ave, south side, from 9m east of the extended east kerbline of Bankhead Ave (leg south of Bankhead Cway Nth), eastwards to 8m west of the extended north-west kerbline of the access road to Edinburgh College.

SCHEDULE 4 FOOTWAY CLOSURES:

From 00:00hrs on 15/05/26 to 23:59hrs on 30/07/26 on: (a) Bankhead Dr, south side (i) from the extended east kerbline of Bankhead Ave, eastwards for 100m; (ii) from the extended west kerbline of Bankhead Ave, westwards for 10m; (b) Bankhead Dr, north side, from the extended west kerbline of Sth Gyle Access, westwards for 100m; (c) south Gyle access, east side, from the extended north kerbline of Bankhead Dr, northwards for 25m; & (d) Bankhead ave, east side, from the extended south kerbline of Bankhead Dr, southwards and then westwards for 200 m.
