ASTON ROAD, AND CAMBRIDGE ROAD SHORTSTOWN BEDFORD 26 – 044

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Bedford Borough Council has made an Order the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle except a vehicle being used for fire, police or ambulance purposes in an emergency, from proceeding along the length of Aston Road, Cambridge Road Shortstown Bedford.

This temporary road closure is required to carriageway resurfacing works, civils and lining and shall apply to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.

These temporary road closures are anticipated to be in operation 20:00 to 06:00 hours from 26th May 2026 to 18th June 2026

The signed alternative route for vehicles affected by the order is available via Harrowden Road, High Road, Wallis Way, Cambridge Road Roundabout.

The reverse route applies.

GOLD LANE, BIDDENHAM 25 – 131

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Bedford Borough Council has made an Order the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle except a vehicle being used for fire, police or ambulance purposes in an emergency, from proceeding along the length of Gold Lane, Biddenham from Church End /Main Road to junction Duck End Lane.

This temporary road closure is required to facilitate replace approx. 200m of 6” si with 125mm and any associated services and shall apply to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.

This temporary road closure is anticipated to be in operation 24 hours from 26th May 2026 to 15th June 2026

The signed alternative route for vehicles affected by the order is available via Deep Spinney, Bromham Road.

The reverse route applies.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Bedford Borough Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this Notice to make an Order the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle, except a vehicle being used for fire, police or ambulance purposes in an emergency, from proceeding along Elstow Road, Bedford Junction London Road to Junction of Firbank.

This temporary road closure is required to various carriageway patching and shall apply to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the appropriate traffic signs. This temporary road closure is anticipated to be in operation 20:00 to 05:00 hours from 1st June 2026 to 5th June 2026 The signed alternative route for vehicles affected by the order is available via Elstow Road, London Road, Harrowden Road, Mile Road.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Bedford Borough Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this Notice to make an Order the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle, except a vehicle being used for fire, police or ambulance purposes in an emergency, from proceeding along Gold Lane, Biddenham From Deep Spinney to Peacock Lane.

This temporary road closure is required to facilitate reinstate/ resurface road from previous mains replacement works and shall apply to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Bedford Borough Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this Notice to make an Order the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle, except a vehicle being used for fire, police or ambulance purposes in an emergency, from proceeding along Broadmead Road, Stewartby. This temporary road closure is required for the annual bridge inspection and shall apply to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the appropriate traffic signs. This temporary road closure is anticipated to be in operation 23:00 to 11:00 hours from 13th June 2026 to 14th June 2026 The signed alternative route for vehicles affected by the order is available via Broadmead Road, Woburn Road, Green Lane, Stewartby Way.

The reverse route applies.

BEDFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL

(PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) (OAK ROAD AND CANVIN WAY, BEDFORD) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 30th April 2026 Bedford Borough Council made the above Traffic Regulation Order, the effect of which is detailed below: Effect of the Order:

1. To prohibit motorised vehicles from proceeding along that length of road as specified below:-

Road Days of Operation Hours of Operation
The whole lengths of Oak Road and Canvin Way, Bedford. Monday to Friday inclusive 8:00am - 9:15am and 3:00pm - 4:00pm

This Order makes permanent the traffic restrictions previously introduced on an experimental basis.

This Order is necessary to continue to create a safer environment for pupils and parents/carers at this location at these busy times, to reduce congestion, to help reduce the amount of pollution that school children are exposed to outside schools, and to encourage less reliance on the car for the school run. Date of Operation: The Order will come into force on 25th May 2026 or as soon as practicable after this date.

A copy of the Order and a Statement of Reasons for making the Order may be examined during normal office hours at Borough Hall, Cauldwell Street, Bedford, MK42 9AP. High Court Challenge: Any person who desires to question the validity of this Order or any provision contained therein on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act has not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within six weeks of the date of this Notice, make application for that purpose to the High Court.

BEDFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL PROPOSES TO MAKE AMENDMENTS TO THE BUS LANE ON AMPTHILL ROAD, BEDFORD

Reason for Proposal:

Bedford Borough Council is proposing changes to parts of the Ampthill Road bus lane to improve safety at junctions, along with new waiting and loading restrictions in certain areas to help maintain clear and safe traffic flow. These changes are limited to short sections in the vicinity of junctions and access roads and do not remove the bus lane along the wider length of Ampthill Road.

Effect of the Order:

2. To revoke parts of the bus lane in the following locations:

Ampthill Road, Bedford (Northbound)

(i)    From a point approx. 11 metres north of the projected centre of the Technology House south access road and extending southwards for approx. 36.2 metres.

(ii)   From a point approx. 33.9 metres south of the projected centre of the access road leading to the supermarket service yard and extending northwards for approx. 45.6 metres.

(iii)   From a point approx. 7 metres north of the projected centre of the road to the Osborne Court access road and extending southwards for approx. 28.1 metres.

(iv)  From a point approx. 6.4 metres north of the projected centre of Victoria Road and extending southwards for approx. 48.2 metres.

(v)   From a point approx. 15.8 metres south of the projected centre of Ombersley Road and extending northwards for approx. 21.6 metres.

(vi)  From a point approx. 6.5 metres south of the projected centre of the hospital access road and extending southwards for approx. 7 metres.

2. To introduce “No Waiting at Any Time” and “No Loading at Any Time” restrictions in the following locations:

Ampthill Road, Bedford

(i)    From a point approx. 7.7 metres north east of the projected centre of Sexton Avenue and extending northwards for approx. 125 metres.

(ii)   From a point approx. 4.7 metres north west of the projected centre of the Technology House south access road and extending northwards for approx.159.5 metres.

(iii)   On the southern kerb of the Technology House north access road starting from the projected centre of the junction with Ampthill Road and extending westwards for approx. 13.7 metres

(iv)  From a point approx.12.6 metres north west of the projected centre of the Technology House north access road and extending northwards for approx. 79.1 metres.

3. To introduce “No Waiting at Any Time” restrictions in the following location

Ampthill Road, Bedford

(i)    On the southern kerb of the junction of the access road leading to the supermarket service yard (starting from end of existing double yellow lines), extending in a south westerly direction for approx. 6.3 metres.

4. To introduce “No Loading at Any Time” restrictions in the following locations

Ampthill Road, Bedford

(i)    From a point approx. 6.5 metres west of the projected centre of Westville Road and extending southwards for approx. 164.1 metres.

(ii)   From a point approx. 7.5 metres west of the projected centre of the Osborne Court access road and extending southwards for approx. 252.8 metres.

(iii)   From the projected centre of the Victoria Road junction and extending southwards for approx. 61.7 metres

(iv)  From the projected centre of the Victoria Road junction and extending northwards for approx. 57.9 metres.

 v)   From the projected centre of the Ombersley Road junction and extending southwards for a length of 15.5 metres.

(vi)  From the projected centre of the Ombersley Road junction and extending northwards for approx. 85.2 metres.

These changes are limited to short sections in the vicinity of junctions and access roads and do not remove the bus lane along the wider length of Bedford Road.

Effect of the Order:

1. To revoke short sections of the bus lane in the following locations:

Bedford Road, Kempston (Northbound)

(i)    From a point approx.106 metres north of the projected centre of Marlborough Park and extending northwards for approx. 22.2 metres.

(ii)   From a point approx. 6.7 metres north of the projected centre of Austin Canons and extending southwards for approx. 27.9 metres.

(iii)   From a point approx. 5.4 metres north of the projected centre of Stafford Road and extending southwards for approx. 9.6 metres.

2. To introduce “No Loading at Any Time” restrictions in the following locations

Bedford Road, Kempston

(i)    From the projected centre of the Marlborough Park junction and extending northwards for approx. 220.4 metres.

(ii)   From the projected centre of the Austin Canons junction and extending northwards for approx. 125.6 metres.

(iii)   From the projected centre of the Stafford Road junction and extending northwards for approx. 21.8 metres.

BEDFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL PROPOSES TO REDUCE THE SPEED LIMIT ON A6 RUSHDEN ROAD, SHARNBROOK

Reason for Proposal:

Bedford Borough Council proposes to introduce a 50 mph speed limit on this section of highway to improve road safety, better reflect the surrounding road environment and reduce the likelihood and severity of collisions.

Effect of the Order:

1. To revoke the existing 60mph speed limit and introduce a 50mph speed limit on the following length of road:-

A   Rushden Road, Sharnbrook ( A 6)

(i)    From a point 17.14 metres north west of the projected centre of the A6/Bletsoe Road/Mill Road Roundabout, continuing in a north westerly direction to a point 31.3 metres north west of the projected centre of the junction with Park Lane
