What is happening?

NATIONAL HIGHWAYS

Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 – Section 14(1)(A) And (7), 15(2) Of, And Paragraph 27(1) Of Schedule 9 - The A14 Trunk Road (Junction 25 Bar Hill To Junction 31 Girton Interchange) And The M11 Motorway (South Of Junction 13 To Junction 14) (Cambridgeshire) (Temporary Restriction And Prohibition Of Traffic) Order 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited(a) intends to make an Order on the A14 Trunk Road and M11 Motorway in the County of Cambridgeshire to allow for central reserve barrier and embankment reconstruction works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to last for approximately 17 months starting on, or after Thursday 11 June 2026.

The effect of the Order would be to –
1. impose for 24 hours daily, a speed limit of
1.1 50 Miles Per Hour on the –
• westbound carriageway of the A14 from a point 1200 metres east of the Girton Road Overbridge, for a distance of 800 metres, eastbound carriageway of the A14 from the entry slip road at Junction 25 Bar Hill to a point 370 metres south of the A1307 Dry Drayton Interchange Overbridge, and

• northbound carriageway of the M11 from a point 1290 metres south of the A1303 Madingley Road Overbridge to the exit slip road at Junction 13,

1.2 40 Miles Per Hour on the –
• westbound carriageway of the A14 from a point 400 metres east of the Girton Road Overbridge, for a distance of 850 metres,

• southbound carriageways of the A14 and M11 from a point 370 metres south of the A1307 Dry Drayton Interchange Overbridge, for a distance of 3600 metres,

• northbound carriageway of the M11 from the exit slip road at Junction 13, for a distance of 3700m, and

• link road that joins the A14 westbound to the M11 southbound at Junction 14.

2. Close, overnight (8:00pm – 6:00am) or for some consecutive 24-hour periods, the road that links the A14 westbound to the M11 southbound at J14; Traffic would be diverted via the A14 westbound carriageway to J25 Bar Hill and return via the A14 eastbound carriageway to join the M11 at J14 and continue their journey.

A vehicle width restriction of 2.3 metres (7' 5") would be imposed in the offside lane of the M11 from a point 115 metres north of the centre point of Girton Interchange Underbridge, for a distance of 1100 metres, when narrow lanes are in operation.

A vehicle width restriction of 2.8 metres (9'3") would be imposed on the link road described above, when narrow lanes are in operation, over width vehicles will be diverted as described above.

The temporary speed limits (which would not apply to emergency service or special forces vehicles), closure (which would not apply to works, emergency service, traffic officer or winter maintenance vehicles) and diversion route would be clearly indicated by traffic signs.

The Order would come into force on 11 June 2026 and may continue in force until the works detailed above have been completed.

The A14 Trunk Road (Junction 32 Histon to Junction 31 Girton Interchange) and the M11 Motorway (Junction 13 to Junction 14) (Cambridgeshire) (Temporary Restriction and Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026/2010 would be revoked by this Order.
