(NEW CHARGEABLE CAR PARKS AT MCANANY AVENUE, STATION ROAD AND MILL DAM AND PAY AND DISPLAY PARKING MCANANY AVENUE, SOUTH SHIELDS)
ORDER 2026
South Tyneside Council proposes to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers.
The effect of the Order will be to: Amend the existing Foreshore and Off Street Parking Places Consolidation Order to delete the Parking Places relating to Mill Dam Car Park Zone 1 and Zone 2 and add Parking Places in respect of Mill Dam Car Park (excluding car park at rear of Customs House); Station Road Car Park, and McAnany Avenue Car Park, South Shields in the schedule of Town Centre Car Parks.
Charges apply Mon to Sun 8am to 5pm at Station Road Car Park and Mill Dam Car Park. First hour free then £1.00 per hr thereafter. £4.00 all day.
Charges apply Mon to Sun 8am to 8pm at McAnany Avenue Car Park £1.00 per hr £4.00 all day.
Town Centre Permits may be used at these locations. STC staff permits are accepted at Station Road and Mill Dam Car Parks. Add additional Method of Payment at Town Centre and Foreshore Parking Places for contactless credit card and debit card payments at ticket machines equipped to accept contactless card payments.
Amend closure of parking places.
Harbour Drive North and South Car Parks and Parking Area A of Pier Head (smaller area facing mobile homes) will no longer be closed between the hours of 10pm and 8am.
Parking Places at Trow Quarry, Marsden Lea and Whitburn Bents Car Parks shall be closed from 8.30pm to 8.00am. The Council may at its absolute discretion close any Parking Place.
Any such closure will be indicated by appropriate signage. No person shall remain in a Parking Place that has been closed.
Remove No Waiting At Any Time and No Loading/Unloading At Any Time on McAnany Avenue southwest side from its junction with the southern kerb line of Harton Lane for 95m in a south easterly direction and from a point 55m north west of the projected northern kerbline of the road to the north of 1 to 21 (odd numbers) Hollingside Way in a north westerly direction for 25m.
Introduce No Waiting At Any Time and No Loading/Unloading At Any Time on McAnany Avenue south-west side (i) from its junction with the southern kerb line of Harton Lane for 100m in a south easterly direction (ii) from a point 135m southeast of its junction with Harton Lane south eastwards for 17.5m and (iii) from a point 62m northwest of the projected northern kerbline of the road to the north of 1 to 21 (odd numbers) Hollingside Way in a north westerly direction for 11.65m.
Introduce Pay and Display Parking 8am to 8pm Mon to Sun incl on McAnany Avenue south-west side (i) from a point 8.75m northwest of the extended northern kerb line of Hollingside Way in a north westerly direction for 53m (ii) from a point 73.36m northwest of the extended northern kerb line of Hollingside Way in a north westerly direction for 17m (iii) from a point 107.86m northwest of the extended northern kerb line of Hollingside Way in a north westerly direction for 35m. Charge is £1.00 per hr. £4.00 all day.
Full details of these proposals are contained in the draft order which, together with a plan showing the lengths of road affected and a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order, may be inspected from Monday to Friday during the hours of 10am and 2pm at the Town Hall at the address below.
