What is happening?

(VARIOUS ROADS)
(TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES) (No.8) ORDER 2026
NOTICE is hereby given that Luton Borough Council, the Highway Authority for the said Borough, on 11th May 2026 made the above Order under the relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended).
The Order will come into operation on 27th May 2026 and cease operation after 29th May 2026 or when the proposed Eid events have finished, whichever is the earlier. Specific dates and times will be signed locally. The Order will therefore be in operation during such date and time and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs, barriers or cones.
The effect of the Order will allow the Council to close to unauthorised vehicular traffic the following roads and lengths of roads, namely the whole lengths of Holmfield Close, Old Orchard, Parkland Drive, Sutherland Place, Whitehill Avenue. Diversion route for all five road closures will be via London Road, Castle Street, Windsor Street, Farley Hill. Anticipated dates and times of road closures will be 27th May 2026 to 29th May 2026, 10am to 10pm each day. In conjunction with the road closures the Council intends to suspend the parking places and impose a temporary clearway restriction on the following roads and lengths of roads, namely Cutenhoe Road from its junction with Seymour Road to its junction with London Road, Farley Hill the whole length, London Road the whole length, Newlands Road the whole length, Whipperley Way the whole length.
The Order is intended to create a window for the Eid events to take place, and it is anticipated that the Eid events will take place over a period within the dates described above. The purpose of the Order is to enable the safe passage of highway users attending the Eid events.
For the period of the closures, the Order will also provide for “No Waiting and No Loading” restrictions to apply within the roads and lengths of roads closed for said Eid events. Any unauthorised vehicle deemed to be in contravention of the restrictions will be issued with a penalty charge notice and removed. This will be in force when traffic signs, barriers or cones are displayed.
Pedestrian access will be maintained as best as possible to properties where this may be done safely whilst the Eid events are taking place and diversions for traffic will be marked by signs. Details of road closures and diversions can be found at
