What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (LOWRY STREET, CARLISLE AND C1021 GREAT ORTON) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable utility works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council has made an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of road:
- Lowry Street, Carlisle, from its junction with Durdar Road, extending in a westerly direction for approx. 20m.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of Lowry Street, Lowry Lonning and Durdar Road.
Duration: From 10 May 2026 for approx. 1 day

- C1021 Great Orton, from its junction with Cross House Gardens, extending in a southerly direction for approx. 200m.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the C1021, C2051, A689 and B5307.
Duration: From 22 May 2026 for approx. 1 day

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times

The Order will come into operation on 10 May 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as detailed above, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
