What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 07 May 2026 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4), (5) & (6). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (7), (8), (9), (10), (11), (12) & (13).

(1) MINSTER CLOSE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Minster Close, York between the projected southern boundaries of property no’s 20 and 22 (closed road) during the period when electricity grid maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 11 May 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Tuesday, 19 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(2) BRIDGE CLOSE, HAXBY

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Bridge Close, Haxby between its junction with Eastfield Avenue and a location 105 metres south-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when electricity connection works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 11 May 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Wednesday, 20 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(3) BACK LANE FROM THE VILLAGE TO SOUTH LANE, HAXBY

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Back Lane From The Village To South Lane, Haxby between its junctions with South Lane and The Village (closed road) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 11 May 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 22 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via The Village, York Road, South Lane.

(4) THE VILLAGE, HAXBY

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on The Village, Haxby between the roundabout controlled junction with York Road and the projected western boundary of property no. 31 (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Monday, 11 May 2026 and ending at 1500hrs on Tuesday, 12 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0930hrs and 1500hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via York Road, A1237, Wigginton Road, Mill Lane.

(5) LEEMAN ROAD, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Leeman Road, York (i) between its junctions with Station Rise and Station Avenue and (ii) between points 130 metres east and 35 metres west of Marble Arch Bridge (closed road) during the period when York Central & National Railway Museum delivery works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Tuesday, 12 May 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Thursday, 11 November 2027 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that Leeman Road adjacent to Memorial Gardens will be closed between 2115hrs and 0600hrs overnight every Sunday and Tuesday night for the works period only. Marble Arch tunnel will be closed overnight on Sunday and Tuesday nights after the last bus in the evening until 0600hrs for the works period only. Some further ad-hoc overnight closures will be advertised on road signs at least 10 days before. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Cinder Street, Salisbury Road, Water End, Clifton, Bootham, St Leonards Place, Museum Street, Station Road.

(6) KNAVESMIRE FOOTPATHS, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of footpath on Green Lane Footpath No. 55/26/10 and York Footpath No. 55/30/10, York to the extent that the said footpaths extend across the width of the Knavesmire Racecourse (closed footpaths) during the period when horse racing events are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Wednesday, 13 May 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Saturday, 10 October 2026 (event period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said events can be carried out safely. This prohibition will not apply to a pedestrian or vehicle proceeding other than during a period when a horse race is in progress. Manned barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibition at the respective locations.

(7) CHERRY WOOD CRESCENT, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Cherry Wood Crescent, York between the projected south-western boundaries of property no’s 124 and 130 (closed road) during the period when electricity grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Friday, 15 May 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 22 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Fordlands Road.

(8) BELLMANS CROFT, COPMANTHORPE

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Bellmans Croft, Copmanthorpe between the projected south-western boundaries of property no’s 1 and 5 (closed road) during the period when electricity grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Friday, 15 May 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 22 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that access will be maintained for residents and emergency vehicles during the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(9) MILLFIELD LANE LEVEL CROSSING, POPPLETON

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding through that length of road at Millfield Lane Level Crossing, Poppleton (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2200hrs on Sunday, 17 May 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Monday, 18 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period. Vehicles will be allowed to use the bus gate between Millfield Lane and Low Poppleton Lane, for ingress and egress, without risk of enforcement action, for the works duration only.

(10) MISCELLANEOUS EVENTS, YORK

This Order will impose traffic restrictions on roads and lengths of roads in the District of York, during the period commencing at 1000hrs on Sunday, 17 May 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Tuesday, 30 November 2027 associated with the events & locations listed below, taking place at an off-road location to avoid danger or the likelihood of danger arising to persons or other traffic using the various roads.

Upper Poppleton (Sports Day); Upper Poppleton (Great Yorkshire Show at Harrogate); Esplanade, York (Dragon Boat Race River Ouse)

(11) SARGENT AVENUE & LANG ROAD, BISHOPTHORPE

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Sargent Avenue & Lang Road, Bishopthorpe (i) on Sargent Avenue between its junction with Lang Road and a location 70 metres south-west of said junction and (ii) on Lang Road between the projected southern boundaries of property no’s 35 and 39 (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Monday, 18 May 2026 and ending at 1530hrs on Tuesday, 19 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0930hrs and 1530hrs each day of the works period. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained during the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(12) BISHOPHILL JUNIOR, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Bishophill Junior, York between the junctions with Prospect Terrace and Smales Street (closed road) during the period when electricity mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Wednesday, 20 May 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Wednesday, 27 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Fetter Lane, Skeldergate, Micklegate, Priory Street.

(13) CARMIRES AVENUE, HAXBY

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Carmires Avenue, Haxby (i) between its junction with Windmill Way and a location 40 metres south-east of said junction and (ii) between its junction with Windmill Way and a location 120 metres north-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Thursday, 21 May 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 29 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access will be maintained for residents and emergency services throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
