Public Notice - Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 - The A302 GLA Road (Westminster Bridge Road And Side Roads, London Boroughs Of Lambeth And Southwark) (Temporary Prohibition Of Traffic, Stopping And Banned Turns) Order 2026

1. Transport for London in consultation with the London Borough of Lambeth hereby gives notice that it has made the above-named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.

2. The purpose of the Order is to enable network rail works on Waterloo Railway Bridge to take place on the A302 Westminster Bridge Road.

3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle:
(1) from entering, exiting, or proceeding on the A302 Westminster Bridge Road between its junctions with Addington Street and Station Approach Road;
(2) except cycles from entering, exiting, or proceeding on Upper Marsh between its junctions with the access road to the rear of Nos. 199 to 203 Westminster Bridge Road and A302 Westminster Bridge Road;
(3) from entering, exiting, stopping or proceeding on the Kennington Road northbound bus lane between its junctions with Cosser Street and Hercules Road;
(4) from entering, exiting or proceeding in a westerly direction on Westminster Bridge Road between its junction with St George’s Road and Station Approach Road;
(5) from turning right from Pearman Street onto Westminster Bridge Road;
(6) from turning left from Kennington Road onto Westminster Bridge Road.

The Order will also suspend the one way operation of Upper Marsh between its junctions with the access road to the rear of Nos. 199 to 203 Westminster Bridge Road and Royal Street permitting two way operation.

The Order will be effective between 11th May 2026 and 14th May 2026 every night from 11:59 PM to 06:00 AM or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibition will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.

4. The prohibitions will not apply in respect of:
(1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;
2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.

5. At such times as the prohibition is in force an alternative route will be indicated by traffic signs for pedal cycles only via: Addington Street, Lambeth Palace Road, Upper Marsh and Lower Marsh to normal route of travel, or Lower Marsh, Bayliss Road, Waterloo Road, York Road and Addington Street to normal route of travel.
For northbound traffic on Kennington Road via: Bayliss Road, Waterloo Road, York Road and Addington Street to normal route of travel.
For southbound traffic on York Road via: Lambeth Palace Road, Albert Embankment, Kennington Lane and Kennington Road to normal route of travel.
For northbound traffic on St George’s via: Westminster Bridge Road, Waterloo Road, York Road and Addington Street to normal route of travel.
For Northbound traffic on Lambeth Palace Road via: Addington Street, Waterloo Road and Bayliss Road to normal route of travel.
