Public Notice - Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 - The A232 and A215 GLA Road and Side Roads (Shirley Road, Addiscombe Road, Upper Shirley Road And Wickham Road, London Borough of Croydon) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic and Stopping) Order 2026
1. Transport for London in consultation with the London Borough of Croydon, hereby gives notice that it has made the above named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.
2. The purpose of the Order is to enable carriageway resurfacing works to take place on the A232 Shirley Road and Addiscombe Road.
3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from:
(1) entering, exiting, proceeding or stopping on the A232 Addiscombe Road between its junction with the roundabout connecting Shirley Road/Wickham Road/Upper Shirley Road and the extended common boundary of Nos. 351 and 353 Addiscombe Road;
(2) entering, exiting or proceeding on the A232 Wickham Road between its junction with Shirley Road/Upper Shirley Road and the extended western building line of No. 2 Wickham Road;
(3) exiting into the service road for Trinity School, Shirley Park at its junction with the A232 Shirley Road;
(4) proceeding in a northerly direction on Upper Shirley Road between its junctions with the roundabout connecting Shirley Road/Wickham Road/Upper Shirley Road and Oaks Lane. Local access will be maintained between its junctions with Oaks Lane and Shirley Church Road;
(5) proceeding in a northerly direction on the A232 Shirley Road between its junctions with the roundabout connecting Shirley Road/Wickham Road/Upper Shirley Road and Addiscombe Road;
(6) proceeding in a southerly direction on the A232/A215 Shirley Road between its junction with Shirley Avenue and the extended common boundary of Nos. 4 and 6 Upper Shirley Road, including the roundabout connecting Shirley Road/Wickham Road/Upper Shirley Road;
(7) stopping on the A232/A215 Shirley Road between its junctions with Shirley Avenue and the extended common boundary of Nos. 4 and 6 Upper Shirley Road, including the roundabout connecting Shirley Road/Wickham Road/Upper Shirley Road;
(8) stopping on Upper Shirley Road between its junctions with the roundabout connecting Shirley Road/Wickham Road/Upper Shirley Road and Oaks Lane.
This Order will also close the western footway of Shirley Road and southern footway of Addiscombe Road for 10 meters either side of the service roads for Trinity School, Shirley Park for short holds. Marshals will be available to assist pedestrians.
Works will be phased such that some restrictions will apply only at certain times.
The Order will be effective at certain times between 10th May 2026 and 22nd November 2026 every night 8:00 PM to 5:30 AM, or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibitions will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.
4. The prohibitions will not apply in respect of:
(1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;
(2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.
5. At such times as the prohibitions are in force an alternative route will be indicated by traffic signs for:
Phase 1 Diversions via: Upper Shirley Road, Shirley Hills Road, Gravel Hill, Coombe Lane, Coombe Road, Park Hill Road, Chepstow Road and Addiscombe Road to normal route of travel.
Or via: Wickham Road, West Wickham High Street, Glebe Way, Coney Hill Roundabout, Addington Road, Kent Gate Way and Gravel Hill to Diversion above.
Or via: Gravel Hill (eastbound), Roundabout and Gravel Hill (westbound) to Diversion above.
Phase 2 Diversions – For northbound traffic wanting Wickham Road via Hartland Way and Shirley Church Road to normal route of travel.
For southbound traffic wanting Wickham Road via Shirley Avenue to normal route of travel.
For northbound traffic wanting Shirley Road via Shirley Road (northbound), Lower Addiscombe Road (eastbound), Spring Lane, Woodside Green, Morland Road, Lower Addiscombe Road (westbound), Cherry Orchard Road, Addiscombe Grove, Barclay Road, Park Lane, Coombe Road and Coombe Lane to normal route of travel.
Or via: Orchard Avenue, The Glade and Long Lane to normal route of travel.
For traffic wanting Upper Shirley Road via: West Wickham High Street, Glebe Way, Coney Hall Roundabout, Addington Road, Kent Gate Way and Gravel Hill to normal route of travel.
For Phase 3 traffic in Addiscombe Road via Ashburton Road/Outram Road, Lower Addiscombe Road and Shirley Road to normal route of travel.
Or via: Barclay Road/Fairfield Road, Addiscombe Grove, Cherry Orchard Road, Lower Ashcombe Road to Diversion above.
For traffic wanting Addiscombe Road from Shirley Road via: Upper Shirley Road, Shirley Hills Road, Gravel Hill, Coombe Lane, Coombe Road and Park Hill Road to normal route of travel.
Traffic in Wickham Road via: West Wickham High Street, Glebe Way, Coney Hill Roundabout, Addington Road, Kent Gate Way and Gravel Hill to Diversion above.
