What is happening?

Essex County Council

(Brook Street & Station Road & Church Street & Crossways, Colne Engaine) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

  1. To temporarily close that length of Brook Street, Colne Engaine in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Station Road for a distance of approximately 195m in a north westerly then south westerly direction.

  2. To temporarily close that length of Station Road, Colne Engaine in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Brook Street for a distance of approximately 60m in a south westerly direction.

  3. To temporarily close that length of Church Street, Colne Engaine in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Brook Street for a distance of approximately 30m in a north easterly direction.

  4. To temporarily close that length of Crossways, Colne Engaine in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Brook Street for a distance of approximately 30m in a north easterly direction.

The closures are scheduled to commence on 1st June 2026 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (BC008WGQCF64GSB, BC008WGQCF64G02SB, BC008WGQCF64G03SB & BC008WGQCF64G01SB – Openreach Limited). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closures are required for the safety of the public and workforce while cabling works are undertaken by Openreach Limited.

Alternative routes are available:

  1. Brook Street, Halstead Road, Brook Street, Colne Road, A131, A1124, Colne Park Road, Lawshall’s Hill, Countess Cross, Overhall Hill, Green Farm Road, The Green, Church Street and vice versa.

  2. Brook Street, Halstead Road, Brook Street, Colne Road, A131, A1124, Station Road and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 14th May 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Queen Street, Castle Hedingham)

Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Queen Street, Castle Hedingham in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Church Lane for a distance of approximately 20m in a north easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 2nd June 2026 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30087743329 – UK Power Networks). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while overhead cabling works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.

An alternative route is available via Bayley Street, Pye Corner, Nunnery Street, A1017 and vice versa (with access only into Station Road, Queen Street, St James Street).

The Order will come into effect on 14th May 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Oak Road, Pebmarsh) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Oak Road, Pebmarsh in the District of Braintree, from a point approximately 20m south east of its junction with Twinstead Road for a distance of approximately 100m in a south easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 20th May 2026 for 2 days, or where stated on a valid permit (BC411002FBR52235 – Openreach Limited). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while pole replacement works are undertaken by Openreach Limited.

An alternative route is available via Oak Road, Birchleys Road, Levitts Corner, Byndes Corner, Pebmarsh Road, A131, Catley Cross, Twinstead Road and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 30th April 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Wethersfield Road, Sible Hedingham)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Wethersfield Road, Sible Hedingham in the District of Braintree, from a point approximately 310m south west of its junction with Priorys Hill for a distance of approximately 30m in a south westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 18th May 2026 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD03167745129 – Anglian Water Business (National) Limited).

The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while cover and frame repair works are undertaken by Anglian Water Business (National) Limited.

An alternative route is available via Blackmore End, Beazley End, Parkhall Road, Church Road, A1017, Rectory Road, Prayors Hill and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 30th April 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Temporary Introduction of a Clearway) (No.12) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

  1. To temporarily close that length of road in the District of Braintree as specified in the Schedule.

  2. A temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ restriction will be introduced on both sides of carriageway on the above length of road for the duration of the closure to facilitate the works. Signs will be installed indicating when the No Waiting restriction will be in force.

“The Essex County Council (Braintree District) (Prohibition of Waiting, Loading and Stopping) and (On Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement Area) Consolidation Order 2019” will be temporarily amended to include the temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping at Any Time’ restriction and suspend any existing parking and waiting restrictions on the above length of road only. All other restrictions and exemptions contained in the aforementioned Order and Amendments to that Order shall remain in force.

The works being undertaken will take place within an 18-month period from 30th April 2026 exact dates will be specified on one.network. The road will be closed to facilitate each phase of works and then re-opened to the public. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Diversion routes will be signed at each location and residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the road.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Temporary Introduction of a Clearway) (No.14) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

  1. To temporarily close that length of road in the District of Braintree as specified in the Schedule.
