A27 TRUNK ROAD NEAR PORTSMOUTH

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A27 Trunk Road in the County of Hampshire and the Unitary Authority of the City of Portsmouth, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prevent incursion into works proposed to be executed on Portsbridge Roundabout by contractors working on behalf of Portsmouth City Council.

The effect of the Order would be:-

1)   to authorise the overnight closure of all the roads leading to and from both carriageways of the A27 (including the westbound fast link) at Portsbridge Roundabout (A3/A27/A397).

2)   to prohibit, overnight, non-motorway traffic from the westbound carriageway of the A27 west of Farlington Interchange (A2030). These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake carriageway resurfacing and all associated work.

The work is expected to commence on or after Monday 1st June 2026 and last for 2 weeks. The overnight closures and prohibition would be in place during the first week, and would occur between 20:00 hours to 06:00 hours (maximum period). The second week would be lane closures only. Please see National Highways website for confirmation of closures.

The Order would come into force on 30th May 2026 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.

Traffic affected by the closures in 1) above would be diverted by using the M275, A3, and A27. Non-motorway traffic would be directed to leave at Farlington Interchange and use the A3, A2030, and Havant Road. The diversion in operation would vary according to the closure in force.  All traffic management is under the control of Colas Ltd on behalf of Portsmouth City Council. The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
