What is happening?
WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (A65 AYNAM ROAD, KENDAL) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable flood defence works to be carried out (“the Works”), Westmorland and Furness Council has made an Order the effect of which is to;
1. Prohibit all traffic (including vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists) which is travelling in a south westerly direction along the A65 Aynam Road, Kendal, from making a right turn onto Nether Bridge.
Alternative Route for south west bound vehicles: via Lound Road, Romney Bridge Roundabout and Lound Road.
Duration: From 11th May 2026 for approx. 5 days (Ref: TTROW/I/7942)
2. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding at speeds in excess of 10 miles per hour along that section of the A65 Aynam Road, Kendal, from its junction with Bridge Street, extending in a south easterly then south westerly direction for a distance of approx. 740 metres.
Duration: From 19th June 2026 for approx. 12 months (Ref: TTROW/I/8628)
The 10 miles per hour speed restriction will operate where work is ongoing but the contractor’s operatives and plant are not on site. It is required to protect users passing through restricted width traffic lanes.
No speed limit imposed by this Order will apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations.

The Order will come into operation on 11th May 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as detailed above, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
