North Road - Temporary Road Closure Due To Bus Station Cladding Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (North Road, Durham City) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026
The Council on 1/5/2026 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following length of road. An 85 metre length of the northbound carriageway of North Road, Durham City, from the bus station entrance at the southern side of the closure, in a northerly direction to the junction with A690 North Road Roundabout to enable bus station cladding works to be undertaken.
Throughout the period of the closure, a diversion will be available to vehicular traffic from the south side of the closure, in a southerly direction on North Road, then north on Milburngate, then west on A690 to the northern end of closure.
The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence from 8am on Monday 11/5/2026 and are anticipated to be completed in 38 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
