Durham - Temporary Footpath Closure Due To Bridge Maintenance Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (Public Rights of Way, Footpath Number 4 Consett Parish and Broomhill Dene Bridge, Ebchester) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2026
The Council on 1/5/2026 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following length of footpath. Up to a 243 metre length of Public Footpath No.4, Consett Parish that crosses Broomhill Dene Bridge between Footpaths No.2 and 3 Consett, near Ebchester to enable bridge maintenance works to be undertaken.
An alternative route will be available to pedestrian traffic from the western side of the closure, from Footpath No.3 north, then south easterly on Footpath No. 5 and south westerly on Footpath No.2, to the eastern side of the closure and vice versa.
The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The proposed works are to commence on Monday 11/5/2026 and are anticipated to be completed in 3 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
