What is happening?
WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS IN THE CONISTON AREA) (BLUEBIRD K7 EVENT)
(TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that due to the likelihood of danger to the public whilst ‘The Ruskin Museum’ stage the Bluebird K7 Event on Coniston Water (“the Event”), Westmorland and Furness Council has made an Order the effect of which is to: -
- Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of road in the Coniston area: -
a. C5018, from its junction with the B5285, extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 830m.
b. C5018, from its junction with the B5285, extending in a south westerly direction to its junction with the U5082.
Alternative Route: Via the U5082, A5084 (Water Yeat), A593 (Torver), Broughton Road and the B5285.
c. Station Road, from its junction with Broughton Road (A593), extending in a westerly direction to its junction with Church Beck Close.
Alternative Route: Via the unrestricted section of Station Road, Yewdale Road and Broughton Road (A593).
d. Lake Road, from a point approx. 415m south east of its junction with Broughton Road (A593), extending in a north easterly then south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 440m.
- Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding at speeds in excess of 30 miles per hour along that section of the B5285, Coniston, from a point approx. 40m east of its junction with Shepherd’s Bridge Lane, extending in a north easterly direction for a distance of approx. 1.5km.
No speed limit imposed by this Order will apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations.
- Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in an easterly direction along that section of the C5006, from its junction with Station Road, extending in an easterly direction to its junction with the A593.
A suitable alternative route for west bound traffic will be available via Broughton Road (A593) and Station Road.
- Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a south westerly direction along that section of Shepherds Bridge Lane, from its junction with the A593, extending in a south easterly direction to its junction with the B5285.
A suitable alternative route for north east bound traffic will be available via the B5285 and Yewdale Road (A593).
- Prohibit any vehicle from waiting at any time, on any day and/or from loading and unloading, at any time, on any day (including blue badge holders) along the following sections of road: -
a. A5084, Torver (both sides) from its junction with the A593, extending in a south easterly direction for approx. 4.1km.
b. A592, Torver (both sides) from its junction with the A5084, extending in a north easterly direction for a distance of approx. 5.9km.
c. Station Road, Coniston (south side) from its junction with Broughton Road (A593), extending in a westerly direction to its junction with Brow Close (U5834).
d. Lake Road, Coniston (both sides), from its junction with the A593, extending in an overall south westerly direction for its entire length.
e. B5285, Coniston (both sides), from its junction with the A593, extending in a north easterly direction for 2.7km.
f. C5018, Coniston (both sides), from its junction with the B5285, extending in an overall south westerly direction to its junction with the U5082.

The Order will come into operation on 11th May 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of three days from that date. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required for 1 week with the restrictions being operational as follows 08:00hrs to 18:00hrs Monday to Thursday and 08:00 to 23:00 hrs Friday to Sunday and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
