What is happening?

CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE

(ST JOHN STREET & PUDDING CHARE) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 30 April 2026 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicular traffic to proceed on St John Street & Pudding Chare for their entire lengths.

2. The alternative route for traffic will be signed on site as required.

3. The Order is required in connection with Newcastle Gateshead Marathon ("the Event) and to reduce the disruption to traffic likely to be caused by the Event.

The Order is required to allow the Event to be carried out safely on or near the highway and to ensure the health and safety of the public.

4. Exemptions will be provided for vehicles engaged in the works, for access and police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles on emergency call.

5. The Order will come into operation on 20 May 2026 and will continue, as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed, up to 21 May 2026 or until the proposed works are completed, whichever is the earlier.
