NOTICE is given that on 5 May 2026 Oxfordshire County Council made the above orders under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The orders, which come into force on 8 May – as part of ‘Vision Zero’ road safety campaign – introduces a 50mph speed limit on the A420 Swindon to Oxford Road in place of the existing sections of 60mph National speed limit in order to create a continuous limit between Bourton & Hinton Waldrist as follows:

  1. From the 50mph speed limit at Bourton, north-eastwards to the 50mph speed limit terminal northeast of the Watchfield roundabout,
  2. from the 50mph speed limit at Great/Little Coxwell, north-eastwards to the 50mph speed limit terminal at Wadley Lodge/Manor at Littleworth.

Additional speed limit amendments will be made on roads adjacent to the A420 to help facilitate the new limit as follows:

1. 50mph speed limits:

a. Faringdon Road (Watchfield) – from its roundabout junction with the A420 Oxford Road, south-westwards for a distance of 25 metres;

b. Fernham Road (Little Coxwell) – from its junction with the A420, southwards to a point 30 metres south of this junction with Bridleway No.278/2/10;

c. Park Road (Faringdon) – from its junction with the A420, north-westwards for a distance of 34 metres;

d. London Street (Faringdon) – from its junction with the A420, westwards for a distance of 60 metres; and

e. A417 Stanford Road – from its junction with the A420, south-eastwards to the current 50mph speed limit, a distance of approx. 105 metres.

2. 40mph speed limit:

London Street – from a point 60 metres west of the A420 to the 20mph speed limit east of its junction with Sudbury Court.

The following orders are revoked/replaced as necessary: A420 Trunk Road (Watchfield to Little Coxwell and Littleworth to Longworth) (50 Miles Per Hour Speed Limit) Order 1993, the Oxfordshire County Council A420 Oxford – Swindon Road, Bourton) (50mph Speed Limit) Order 2009, Oxfordshire County Council (A417 Faringdon to Wantage, Vale of White Horse District) (50mph Speed Limit) Order 2007, the Oxfordshire County Council (Faringdon) (Speed Limits) Order 2023, the Oxfordshire County Council (Longcot, Shrivenham & Watchfield) (Speed Limits) Order 2023, and the Oxfordshire County Council (Great Coxwell and Little Coxwell) (Speed Limits) Order 2023.

Notice of Temporary Traffic Order

Woodstock, Various roads

Temporary Prohibition of Waiting

Date of Order: 18 May 2026

Coming into force: 23 May 2026

This Order is being introduced because of SSEN low voltage electrical works which are anticipated to be completed on 31 May 2026. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit waiting on sections of Shipton Road, Hensington Close and Flemings Road. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the prohibition is in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner.

Notice of Temporary Traffic Order

Carterton, Milestone Road

Prohibition of Through Traffic

Date of Order: 18/05/2026

Coming into force: 26/5/2026

This Order is being introduced because of drainage improvements and tactile paving works which are anticipated to take 8 days to complete (weekdays only). The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding in the length of Milestone Road between Nos. 75 and 80 northeast of Corbett Road. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. The alternative route for traffic is via Corbett Road, Alvescot Road, Black Bourton Road, and vice versa. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner.

Notice of Temporary Traffic Order

Eynsham, A40 Eynsham Roundabout Area – Temporary 30 mph Speed Limit

Date of Order: 5/5/2026

Coming into force: 13/5/2026

This Order is being introduced because of trial inspection works on behalf of Thames Water which are anticipated to complete by 26 May 2026. The effect of the Order is to temporarily reduce the 40, 50 and national 60 mph speed limits to 30 mph on all four approaches to the Eynsham Roundabout. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. The relevant part of the Oxfordshire County Council (Eynsham Parish) (Speed Limits) Order 2022 will be temporarily suspended for the duration of the Works. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner.
