Somerset - Temporary Road Closure Due To National Grid Electricity Works

What is happening?

SOMERSET COUNCIL

Parish Of Burnham-On-Sea And Highbridge - Temporary Closure Of North Avenue, West Avenue, East Avenue, South Avenue And Parsons Road

Somerset Council in exercise of its powers under Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, propose to make an Order prohibiting all traffic from proceeding along:

North Avenue - from the junction with Burnham Road to the junction with East Avenue; West Avenue - from the junction with North Avenue to the junction with Parsons Road; East Avenue - from the junction with North Avenue to the junction with South Avenue; South Avenue - from the junction with Parsons Road to the junction with East Avenue and Parsons Road - from the junction with South Avenue to the junction with Dunbar Close. A total distance of 861 metres. This Order will enable National Grid to renew overhead electricity poles and conductors.

The Order becomes effective on 19th May 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months. The works are expected to commence on 26th May 2026 and last until 5th June 2026 between the hours of 08:00 - 19:00 for a total of 11 days. Statement of Reasons for making the Order
a) because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road; or
b) because of the likelihood of danger to the public, or of serious damage to the road, which is not attributable to such works.
