What is happening?
THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (MARINE WALK) Temporary traffic regulation ORDER 2026
Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an order under section 14(1) of the road traffic regulation act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all pedestrian traffic from the section of footpath described in the schedule. The Order is required to allow for repair works to the pier. The order will come into force on 1st June 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be six months. However, it is anticipated that the works will take 128 days. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the section of footpath described in the schedule (except for personnel involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An alternative route will be provided via the adjacent highway network. Schedule: Marine Walk from the footpath with North Pier for a distance of 60m in a North Westerly direction.
