ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984
THE DERBYSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS, CASTLETON, HIGH PEAK) (PROHIBITIONS AND RESTRICTIONS OF WAITING, STOPPING AND PARKING) TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Notice is hereby given that, on the 23rd of April 2026 Derbyshire County Council made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The Order will come into operation on the 4th of May 2026 and its effect is: -
1. TO PROHIBIT WAITING AT ANY TIME BY VEHICLES (EXCEPT THOSE DELIVERING OR COLLECTING GOODS OR LOADING AND UNLOADING) ON LENGTHS OF THE FOLLOWING ROADS:
Access Road to Castleton Visitor Centre, Castleton, Arthurs Way, Winnats Pass, Back Street, Buxton Road, Castle Street, Cross Street, How Lane, Market Street, Mill Bridge, Pindale Road and Weaving Avenue, Castleton.
Exemptions have been made for vehicles used in connection with any building operation or demolition; removal of any obstruction to traffic; carrying out of statutory powers or as part of a funeral or wedding cortege. The usual exemptions for disabled persons’ vehicles displaying a valid disabled person’s badge also apply.
2. TO INTRODUCE PARKING PLACES LIMITED WAITING, 9AM TO 5PM, MAXIMUM STAY 2 HOURS, NO RETURN WITHIN 1 HOUR ON A LENGTH OF THE FOLLOWING ROAD:
Unnamed Road to Blue John Cavern turning head, Castleton.
3. TO INTRODUCE PARKING PLACES PAY AND DISPLAY, 9AM TO 5PM, MAXIMUM STAY 4 HOURS, NO RETURN WITHIN 1 HOUR ON LENGTHS OF THE FOLLOWING ROADS:
Buxton Road and Unnamed Road from Buxton Road to Mam Tor, Castleton.
RELEVENT PARKING CHARGE (ZONE PARKING TARIFFS) Castleton Zone
Up to 1 Hour £1.00, Up to 2 Hours £1.60, Up to 3 Hours £3.00 and Up to 4 Hours £5.00
4. TO INTRODUCE DISABLED BADGE HOLDER ONLY PARKING PLACE, 9AM TO 5PM, MAXIMUM STAY 3 HOURS, NO RETURN WITHIN 1 HOUR ON LENGTHS OF THE FOLLOWING ROADS:
Back Street and Castle Street, Castleton.
5. TO PROHIBIT STOPPING AT ANY TIME BY VEHICLES RED ROUTE ON LENGTHS OF THE FOLLOWING ROADS:
Unnamed Road from Buxton Road to Mam Tor, Unnamed Road to Blue John Cavern turning head, Unnamed Road to Sparrowpit and Unnamed Road to Rushup Edge Farm, Castleton.
6. TO INTRODUCE GENERAL PARKING PLACES, AT ANY TIME ON A LENGTH OF THE FOLLOWING ROAD:
Unnamed Road from Buxton Road to Mam Tor, Castleton.
7. TO PROHIBIT WAITING 8AM – 6PM, SATURDAY – SUNDAY AND BANK HOLIDAYS, BY VEHICLES (EXCEPT THOSE DELIVERING OR COLLECTING GOODS OR LOADING AND UNLOADING) ON LENGTHS OF THE FOLLOWING LENGTHS OF ROADS:
Back Street and How Lane, Castleton.
The opportunity was taken to consolidate, in this Order, all the existing restrictions on the roads listed above, that were in force and were unaffected by the proposals. This was an administrative exercise only, it did not change the restriction nor the length of road covered, it simply gave the Council the ability to write the restriction descriptions, so that start and end points of the total restriction was described. Any permanent Traffic Regulation Orders made prior to this Order, insofar as they relate to the lengths of road listed above, will be revoked. A copy of the Order and documents giving more detailed particulars of the Order are available for inspection at the County Council’s principal offices known as County Hall on Smedley Street in Matlock, at Chapel-en-le-Frith Library, Town Hall, Market Square, Chapel-en-le-Frith, High Peak, Derbyshire, SK23 0HP, during opening hours and on request by emailing

until 6 weeks after the Order is made until 4th of June 2026. Any person who wishes to question the validity of the Order, or any provision contained in it, on the ground that it is not within the powers of The Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or on the ground that a requirement of that Act or any relevant regulation made under it has not been complied with may, within 6 weeks from the 23rd of April 2026 make application for the purpose to the High Court.
