ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14

THE A19 TRUNK ROAD

(MURTON INTERCHANGE TO EASINGTON INTERCHANGE)

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order  on the A19 Trunk Road, in County Durham,  to enable bridge painting works to be carried  out in safety.

The works are expected to start on Monday  18 May 2026 for 2 months, or until completed.

The effect of the Order will be to close, between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works, the A19:

(i)   northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at A182 Easington Interchange to the entry slip road at B1285 Murton Interchange, a distance of 3867 metres;

(ii)  southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at A182 Cold Hesledon Interchange to the entry slip road at Easington Interchange, a distance of 3534 metres;

(iii) northbound entry slip road at Easington Interchange; and

(iv) northbound exit and southbound entry slip roads at Cold Hesledon Interchange. During the closures, suitably signed alternative routes will be available.

It will be necessary to close, 24 hours a day, at times during the works, the laybys adjacent to the A19:

(v)  southbound carriageway approximately  640 metres and 2550 metres south of A182 Cold Hesledon overbridge; and

(vi) northbound carriageway approximately  880 metres north of Hall Walks overbridge.

Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 17 May 2026 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
