THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (NILE STREET) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026


Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 22nd April 2026 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and Regulation 7 of the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Procedure Regulations 1992, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all vehicle, cycle and equestrian traffic from the sections of highway listed in the Schedule. The Order is required to facilitate the erection of scaffolding. The order will come into force on 24th April 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be eighteen months. However, the works are expected to be completed within 7 months. All vehicles, bicycles and horses will be prohibited from the sections of roads listed in the Schedule below. An alternative route will be provided. Schedule: Nile Street from its junction with Borough Road for a distance of 30 metres in a northern-westerly direction; and Nile Street East Back for its full extent.
