York - Multiple Temporary Traffic Restrictions Due To Various Works

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 16 April 2026 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6) & (7). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (8), (9), (10), (11), (12), (13) & (14).

(1) MOORCROFT ROAD, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Moorcroft Road, York between the projected western boundary of property no. 50 and the projected northern boundary of property no. 47 (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2100hrs on Monday, 20 April 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Tuesday, 21 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Moor Lane, Chaloner Road, Wains Grove, Wains Road, Trent Way, Acorn Way.

(2) KEBLE PARK NORTH, BISHOPTHORPE

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Keble Park North, Bishopthorpe between the junction with Acaster Lane and a location 424 metres west of said junction (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 20 April 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 24 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. Alternative routes for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Lamplugh Crescent, Montague Road, Ramsey Avenue and Keble Park South, Acaster Lane. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained.

(3) FIFTH AVENUE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Fifth Avenue, York between the junctions with Melrosegate and St Aelreds Close (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1000hrs on Tuesday, 21 April 2026 and ending at 1530hrs on Tuesday, 21 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Eighth Avenue, Fourth Avenue, Melrosegate.

(4) BOOTHAM LEVEL CROSSING, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding through the Bootham Level Crossing on Wigginton Road, York (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2335hrs on Tuesday, 21 April 2026 and ending at 0555hrs on Wednesday, 22 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Wigginton Road, A1237, Haxby Road, Link Road.

(5) THE GLADE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on The Glade, York between the projected north-eastern boundaries of property nos 3 and 9 (closed road) during the period when electricity grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Tuesday, 21 April 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Wednesday, 29 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period.

(6) MURTON WAY & OSBALDWICK VILLAGE, OSBALDWICK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Murton Way & Osbaldwick Village, Osbaldwick (i) on Murton Way between its junctions with Osbaldwick Link Road and Osbaldwick Village and (ii) on Osbaldwick Village between both its junctions with Osbaldwick Lane (closed roads) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Thursday, 23 April 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 01 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Osbaldwick Link Road, Hull Road, Tang Hall Lane, Osbaldwick Lane. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained.

(7) PICCADILLY, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Piccadilly, York between its junctions with Pavement and Merchantsgate (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Friday, 24 April 2026 and ending at 0500hrs on Friday, 24 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Merchantsgate, Walmgate, Foss Islands Road, Peasholme Green, The Stonebow, Pavement.

(8) MALTON ROAD, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Malton Road, York between the roundabout controlled junction with Jockey Lane and A1237 (York Outer Ring Road) (closed road) during the period when surface dressing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0700hrs on Saturday, 25 April 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Sunday, 17 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will only be closed for one day during the works period between 0700hrs and 1700hrs (weather depending). Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Jockey Lane, Monks Cross Link, A1237.

(9) ELVINGTON LANE, YORK ROAD & MAIN STREET, ELVINGTON

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Elvington Lane, York Road & Main Street, Elvington (i) on Elvington Lane between its junction with the A1079 Hull Road and the projected south-eastern boundary of Brinkworth Bungalow and (ii) on York Road between its junctions with Wheldrake Lane and Dauby Lane and (iii) on Main Street between its junction with Dauby Lane and the projected western boundary of the property named The Bridge (closed roads) during the period when surface dressing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0700hrs on Saturday, 25 April 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Sunday, 17 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will only be closed for one day during the works period between 0700hrs and 1700hrs (weather depending). Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Bubwith, Holme on Spalding Moor, Shiptonthorpe, Barmby Moor, Wilberfoss.

(10) CHERRY WOOD CRESCENT, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Cherry Wood Crescent, York between the projected north-eastern boundaries of property nos 6 and 66 (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 27 April 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 01 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Fordlands Road.

(11) CHURCH STREET, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Church Street, York between the projected south-western boundary of property no. 12 St Sampsons Square and the projected south-western boundary of property no. 2 Church Street (closed road) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1030hrs on Monday, 27 April 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 01 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 1030hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Parliament Street, The Stonebow, Jewbury, Goodramgate.

(12) BISHOPHILL JUNIOR, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Bishophill Junior, York between the junctions with Prospect Terrace and Smales Street (closed road) during the period when electricity mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 27 April 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 01 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Fetter Lane, Skeldergate, Micklegate, Priory Street.

(13) SOUTH LANE, HAXBY

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on South Lane, Haxby between its junction with York Road and the projected eastern boundary of property no.1 Yorkfield Cottages (closed road) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 27 April 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Monday, 11 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via York Road, The Village.

(14) MOOR LANE LEVEL CROSSING, STRENSALL

This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding through that length of road at Moor Lane Level Crossing, Strensall (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2320hrs on Tuesday, 28 April 2026 and ending at 0555hrs on Wednesday, 29 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Ox Carr Lane, York Road.

(15) MALTON ROAD, YORK

This Order will suspend the southbound bus lane in that length of road on Malton Road, York between locations 115 metres and 170 metres north of its roundabout controlled junction with Heworth Green (suspended bus lane) to allow all vehicles to use the bus lane during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Tuesday, 28 April 2026 and ending at 1530hrs on Wednesday, 29 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

(16) A59 RED LION TO SHIRBUTT LANE, A59 YORK ROAD & SHIRBUTT LANE, HESSAY

This Order will restrict vehicles to speeds no greater than 40 mph in those lengths of road on A59 Red Lion to Shirbutt Lane, A59 York Road & Shirbutt Lane, Hessay (i) on the A59 Red Lion to Shirbutt Lane between its junction with Shirbutt Lane and a location 900 metres south-east of said junction and (ii) on A59 York Road between its junction with Shirbutt Lane and the projected western boundary of property named “Shirbutts” and (iii) on Shirbutt Lane between its junction with A59 York Road and a location 100 metres south-west of said junction (restricted roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0915hrs on Wednesday, 29 April 2026 and ending at 1600hrs on Friday, 01 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
