What is happening?

Essex County Council

(Southend Road, Great Baddow)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) &
(Essex Yeomanry Way/Southend Road, Great Baddow)
(Temporary Introduction of a 40 MPH Speed Limit) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:
1. To temporarily close that length of Southend Road, Great Baddow (On Slip Road Only) in the City of Chelmsford, from a point approximately 270m south west then south east of its junction with Molrams Lane for a distance of approximately 100m in a south easterly direction.

2. To temporarily close that length of Southend Road, Great Baddow (Off Slip Road Only) in the City of Chelmsford from a point approximately 1460m south east of its junction with the Southbound Off Slip Essex Yeomanry Way to Maldon Road for distance of approximately 40m in south easterly direction.

3. To temporarily introduce a 40mph speed limit on that length of Essex Yeomanry Way/Southend Road, Great Baddow (Southbound Only) in the City of Chelmsford, from a point approximately 1110m south east of the junction with Southbound Off Slip Essex Yeomanry Way to Maldon Road to the junction with North Roundabout a distance of approximately 10015m.

The closures/restrictions is scheduled to commence on 4th May 2026 for 44 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EN013665544 & EN013665544A – Essex And Suffolk Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. 

The closures/restrictions is required for the safety of the public and workforce while mains renewals and associated service connection works are undertaken by Essex And Suffolk Water.

An alternative route is available via:
1. A1114, A12, A1060, A1114, Army & Navy Roundabout, A1114 and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 16th April 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Ingatestone Road, Highwood)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Ingatestone Road, Highwood in the City of Chelmsford from a point approximately 45m north of its junction with Metsons Lane for a distance of approximately 380m in a north easterly then north westerly direction.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 11th May 2026 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30068434105 – UK Power Networks). 

The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while pole installation and associated cabling works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.

An alternative route is available via Ingatestone Road, Blackmore Road, Chelmsford Road, Ingatestone Road, Mountnessing Road, Swallows Cross Road, Thoby Lane, B1022, Fryerning Lane, Blackmore Road, Mill Green Road, Ingatestone Road and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 23rd April 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Hornells Corner, Little Leighs)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Hornells Corner, Little Leighs in the City of Chelmsford, from its junction with Moulsham Hall Lane to its junction with Felsted Road a distance of approximately 1045m. 

The closure is scheduled to commence on 27th April 2026 for 4 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP201EH2389023 – Essex County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while carriageway repair works are undertaken by Essex County Council.

An alternative route is available via Felsted Road, School Lane, Main Road, Moulsham Hall Lane and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 9th April 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
