(Public Footpath OCH8 – Railway Level Crossing – Charfield)
(Temporary Prohibition of Use by Foot Passengers) Order 2012

Notice is hereby given that the above order, made by South Gloucestershire District Council on 12 October 2012, has been continued in force with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport until 16 October 2027 or until such time as the works are completed, whichever is the earlier.

The effect of the order has closed, temporarily, to foot passengers that length of public footpath OCH8 at Charfield which extends from its junction with New Street crossing the railway level crossing (OS grid ref ST721927) to its junction with Poolfield Farm Lane.

This order, which would have expired on 16 April 2026, was required because of the likelihood of danger to the public consequent upon a reassessment of risks carried out by Network Rail Infrastructure Limited and the inability to improve the safety of users.

A new level crossing site offering a shorter traverse time and adequate sighting of trains has been identified 200m north of the current level crossing and a permanent extinguishment of the route under section 118A of the Highways Act 1980 is being pursued.

Alternative Route: New Street; Wotton Road; Poolfield Farm Lane and vice versa
