What is happening?

THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (ST GEORGES WAY)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an order under section 14(1) of the road traffic regulation act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all pedestrian traffic from the section of footpath described in the schedule. The Order is required to allow for maintenance works to the gas main. The order will come into force on 15th May 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be six months. However, it is anticipated that the works will take 29 days. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the sections of footpaths described in the schedule (except for personnel involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An alternative route will be provided via the adjacent highway network. Schedule: St Georges Way from the extended southern property boundary of no.1 St Georges Way to its northern extent.
