Cumberland - Multiple Temporary Road Closures Due To Utility Works
What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (U4011 VICTORIA ROAD AND SCILLY BANKS, WHITEHAVEN, U4241 CHURCH STREET AND U4243 KILN BROW, CLEATOR)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF ALL TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable utility works to be carried out (‘the Works’), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit all traffic (i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists) from proceeding along the following sections of road:
- U4011 Victoria Road, Whitehaven, from its junction with the U4008 Red Lonning, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 110m, and
- Scilly Banks, Whitehaven, from its junction with Victoria Road, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 10m.
Alternative Route for vehicles via the unrestricted section of the U4011, A595 and U4008.
Duration: From 25 May 2026 for approx. 2 weeks (Ref: TTRO/C/17853)
- U4241 Church Street, Cleator, from its junction with the A5086, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 180m.
There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles.
Duration: From 27 April 2026 for approx. 3 weeks (Ref: TTRO/C/17867)
- U4243 Kiln Brow, Cleator, from its junction with the A5086, extending in an easterly direction for approx. 180m.
There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles.
Duration: From 18 May 2026 for approx. 3 weeks (Ref: TTRO/C/17869)

The Order will come into operation on 27 April 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as detailed above, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
