York - Multiple Temporary Traffic Restrictions Due To Various Works

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an Order on Thursday, 09 April 2026 in respect of the locations numbered (1) & (2). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8) & (9).

(1) KINGS SQUARE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Kings Square, York between its junction with Goodramgate and a location 15 metres south-east of said junction (closed road) during the period when sewer maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 13 April 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 22 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of traffic flow in Colliergate and Kings Square are suspended during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in the said roads. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Church Street, Parliament Street, Pavement.

(2) MAIN STREET, HOLTBY

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Main Street, Holtby between the projected northern boundaries of the properties named Trinity House and The Limes (closed road) during the period when water infrastructure works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Thursday, 16 April 2026 and ending at 1530hrs on Thursday, 16 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents will be maintained throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Straight Lane, Stamford Bridge Road, A64, Common Lane, Hazelbush Lane.

(3) MOORCROFT ROAD, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Moorcroft Road, York between the projected western boundary of property no. 50 and the projected northern boundary of property no. 47 (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2100hrs on Monday, 20 April 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Tuesday, 21 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Moor Lane, Chaloner Road, Wains Grove, Wains Road, Trent Way, Acorn Way.

(4) KEBLE PARK NORTH, BISHOPTHORPE

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Keble Park North, Bishopthorpe between the junction with Acaster Lane and a location 424 metres west of said junction (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 20 April 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 24 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. Alternative routes for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Lamplugh Crescent, Montague Road, Ramsey Avenue and Keble Park South, Acaster Lane. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained.

(5) FIFTH AVENUE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Fifth Avenue, York between the junctions with Melrosegate and St Aelreds Close (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1000hrs on Tuesday, 21 April 2026 and ending at 1530hrs on Tuesday, 21 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Eighth Avenue, Fourth Avenue, Melrosegate.

(6) BOOTHAM LEVEL CROSSING, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding through the Bootham Level Crossing on Wigginton Road, York (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2335hrs on Tuesday, 21 April 2026 and ending at 0555hrs on Wednesday, 22 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Wigginton Road, A1237, Haxby Road, Link Road.

(7) THE GLADE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on The Glade, York between the projected north-eastern boundaries of property no’s 3 and 9 (closed road) during the period when electricity grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Tuesday, 21 April 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Wednesday, 29 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(8) MURTON WAY & OSBALDWICK VILLAGE, OSBALDWICK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Murton Way & Osbaldwick Village, Osbaldwick (i) on Murton Way between its junctions with Osbaldwick Link Road and Osbaldwick Village and (ii) on Osbaldwick Village between both its junctions with Osbaldwick Lane (closed roads) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Thursday, 23 April 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 01 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Osbaldwick Link Road, Hull Road, Tang Hall Lane, Osbaldwick Lane. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained.

(9) PICCADILLY, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Piccadilly, York between its junctions with Pavement and Merchantgate (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Friday, 24 April 2026 and ending at 0500hrs on Friday, 24 April 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Merchantgate, Walmgate, Foss Islands Road, Peasholme Green, The Stonebow, Pavement.

The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
