What is happening?

HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL:

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF BRIDLEWAY THUNDRIDGE 48 & FOOTPATHS 49, 49A, 49B) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that the Hertfordshire County Council have made an Order under Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit pedestrians, horseriders, and cyclists from using that length of Bridleway Thundridge 48 & Footpaths 49, 49a, 49b, From Cambridge road, south east, for an approximate distance of 100m. Alternative route: pedestrians on Thundridge 45, equestrians and cyclists on Thundridge 39. 

The purpose of the Order is to enable resurfacing works to take place.

The section of Bridleway & Footpaths will be closed on or after 13 April 2026 for up to 6 weeks, when signs are in place.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF B181 ROYDON ROAD, STANSTEAD ABBOTTS) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of B181 Roydon Road, Stanstead Abbotts from its junction with Kitten Lane south eastwards to the access road leading to ‘Coldharbour Farm’, a distance of approximately 503m (“the Road”), except for access.

An alternative route will be via B181 (Roydon Road/High Street/ Station Road), A1170 (Pepper Hill/Amwell Hill/London Road/Viaduct Road), B1004 (Bridge Foot/Star Street/Widbury Hill/Ware Road), B180 (Hunsdon Road/Widford Road/High Street/Stanstead Road/ Hunsdon Road) and B181 Roydon Road.

The Order is needed because the replacement of existing gas mains is proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 27 April 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 14 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CHURCH LANE, WORMLEY) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Church Lane, Wormley from its junction with West End Road north westwards for a distance of approximately 122m (“the Road”), except for access.

An alternative route will be via Church Lane, A1170 High Road, Bell Lane, Baas Hill, West End Road and Church Lane.

The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road. 

The Order will come into effect from 29 April 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 1 day to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF RIGHT TURN MOVEMENTS FROM LEA ROAD INTO A121 STATION ROAD, WALTHAM CROSS) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from making a right turn manoeuvre from Lea Road into A121 Station Road, Waltham Cross (“the Roads”), when signs are in place.

An alternative route will be via A121 (Station Road/Eleanor Cross Road), the Queens Road roundabout and A121 (Eleanor Cross Road/ Station Road).

The Order is needed because street lighting works are proposed to be executed on or near the Roads.

The Order will come into effect from 27 April 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 2 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Roads.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF BROOKSIDE, HERTFORD) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Brookside, Hertford from a point in line with the north western boundary of No.57 Brookside south westwards for a distance of approximately 29m (“the Road”).

There is no alternative route available, but access will be maintained wherever possible throughout the duration of the works.

The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 27 April 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 3 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING AND WAITING RESTRICTIONS ON BROMLEY LANE, STANDON) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Bromley Lane, Standon from its junction with Hadham Road south eastwards to its junction with Much Hadham Public Footpath No.001, a distance of approximately 1275m (“the Road”), except for access.

An alternative route will be via Hadham Road, High Street, A120 (Stortford Road/Standon Road), Standon Road, The Ash, The Ford, C15 (unnamed road) and Bromley Lane.

ADDITIONALLY all vehicles are prohibited from waiting at any time on both sides of this length of Road, whilst works are in progress. The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 27 April 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 5 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING AND WAITING RESTRICTIONS ON FORE STREET, HERTFORD) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Fore Street, Hertford from its junction with Market Street north eastwards and south eastwards to its junction with A414 Bluecoats roundabout, a distance of approximately 241m (“the Road”), except for access.

There is no alternative route available, but access will be maintained wherever possible throughout the duration of the works.

ADDITIONALLY all vehicles are prohibited from waiting at any time on both sides of this length of Road, whilst works are in progress. The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road. 

The Order will come into effect from 13 April 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 5 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CHURCHFIELD ROAD, TEWIN) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Churchfield Road, Tewin from a point in line with the western boundary of No.4 Churchfield Road north eastwards and south eastwards for a distance of approximately 30m (“the Road”). An alternative route will be via Churchfield Road, B1000 Hertford Road, Hertford Road, Lower Green, School Lane and Churchfield Road.

The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 13 April 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 3 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF BENNINGFIELD ROAD/ BENNINGFIELD CLOSE, WIDFORD) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Benningfield Road/Benningfield Close, Widford from its junction with B1004 Ware Road north westwards, north eastwards and north eastwards for its entire length (“the length of Roads”), except for access.

There is no alternative route available, but access will be maintained wherever possible throughout the duration of the works.

The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the length of Roads.

The Order will come into effect from 16 April 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 7 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the length of roads.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING AND WAITING RESTRICTIONS ON BENINGTON ROAD, WALKERN) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Benington Road, Walkern from its junction with High Street south eastwards, south westwards and south eastwards to its junction with Walkern Road, a distance of approximately 904m (“the Road”), except for access.

An alternative route will be via High Street, B1037 (Stevenage Road/Fairlands Way), A1155 (Fairlands Way/St Georges Way), A602 (Stevenage Road/Broadhall Way/Hooks Cross), High Street and Walkern Road.

ADDITIONALLY all vehicles are prohibited from waiting at any time on both sides of this length of Road, whilst works are in progress. The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 13 April 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 5 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF QUEEN HOO LANE, TEWIN) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Queen Hoo Lane, Tewin from its junction with Bramfield Road south eastwards to its junction with Tewin Hill, a distance of approximately 882m (“the Road”), except for access.

An alternative route will be via Bramfield Road, Burnham Green Road, Orchard Road, Upper Green and Tewin Hill. 

The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 13 April 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 10 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CRIB STREET, WARE) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Crib Street, Ware from its junction with St Evroul Court north eastwards for a distance of approximately 53m (“the Road”). An alternative route will be via Crib Street, Church Street, A1170 (High Street/Baldock Street), The Bourne and Crib Street. 

The Order is needed because water connection works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 13 April 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 5 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING AND WAITING RESTRICTIONS ON VARIOUS ROADS IN WHEATHAMPSTEAD, ST ALBANS, HARPENDEN AND BRICKET WOOD) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using the following lengths of roads (“the Roads”), except for access and to prohibit all vehicles from waiting at any time on both sides of these lengths of Roads whilst works are in progress:-

1. that length of B651 Lamer Lane, Wheathampstead from its junction with Kimpton Road south eastwards and south westwards to its junction with the B653 Codicote Road/ B653 Lower Luton Road roundabout, a distance of approximately 2104m.

An alternative route will be via Kimpton Road, B651 (Ballslough Hill/ High Street) and B652 (High Street/Kimpton Bottom/Bower Heath Lane/Lower Luton Road).

2. that length of High Oaks, St Albans from its junction with Green Lane north westwards to its junction with Sparrowswick Rise, a distance of approximately 621m.

An alternative route will be via Green Lane, New Greens Avenue, Carnegie Road and Cavan Drive.

3. that length of Blundell Close, St Albans from its junction with Carnegie Road north westwards, north eastwards and south westwards for a distance of approximately 208m. 

There is no alternative route available, but access will be maintained wherever possible throughout the duration of the works.

4. that length of West Common, Harpenden from its junction with St Josephs Walk south westwards and south eastwards to its junction with A1081 St Albans Road, a distance of approximately 554m.

An alternative route will be via Leyton Road and A1081 St Albans Road.

5. that length of Leyton Road, Harpenden from its junction with the A1081 St Albans Road/Bull Road roundabout south westwards and north westwards to its junction with Church Green, a distance of approximately 471m.

An alternative route will be via A1081 (St Albans Road/High Street) and Church Green.

6. that length of Church Green, Harpenden from its junction with Rothamsted Avenue south eastwards and north eastwards for a distance of approximately 149m.

There is no alternative route available, but access will be maintained wherever possible throughout the duration of the works.

7. that length of Barlings Road, Harpenden from a point 91m north west of its junction with Collens Road south westwards, north eastwards, north westwards, south weastwards, north eastwards and north westwards for its entire length.

There is no alternative route available, but access will be maintained wherever possible throughout the duration of the works.

8. that length of Ashridge Drive, Bricket Wood from its junction with Jenkins Avenue south eastwards to its junction with West Riding, a distance of approximately 610m.

An alternative route will be via Jenkins Avenue, Short Lane, Reynards Way, Oakwood Road and West Riding.

9. that length of Jenkins Avenue, Bricket Wood from its junction with Broad Acre south westwards and southwards for its entire length. An alternative route will be via Broad Acre, Old Watford Road and The Uplands.

10. that length of Mabbutt Close, Bricket Wood from its junction with Jenkins Avenue south eastwards for a distance of approximately 105m.

There is no alternative route available, but access will be maintained wherever possible throughout the duration of the works.

11. that length of Mount Pleasant Lane, Bricket Wood from its junction with Station Road south westwards, north westwards and south westwards for a distance of approximately 1420m. An alternative route will be via Station Road, Park Street Lane, Tippendell Lane and A405 (North Orbital Road/St Albans Road/ Mount Pleasant Lane).

12. that length of Chiltern Road, St Albans from its junction with The Ridgeway north westwards, north eastwards and north westwards to its junction with Sandringham Crescent, a distance of approximately 254m. 

An alternative route will be via The Ridgeway, Marshalswick Lane, B651 St Albans Road and Sandringham Crescent.

13. that length of Queens Crescent, St Albans from its westernmost junction with Kingshill Avenue north eastwards, south eastwards and south westwards for a distance of approximately 335m. An alternative route will be via Kinghills Avenue.

The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Roads. 

The Order will come into effect on 13 April 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 5 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

THE HERTFORDSHIRE (TWYFORD ROAD, BISHOP’S STORTFORD) (20 MPH SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 2024

NOTICE is given that the Hertfordshire County Council has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (1984 Act) to introduce a new 20 mph speed limit in parts of Bishop’s Stortford as specified in the Schedule to this Notice. The Order will come into effect on Friday 17 April 2026.
