A27 Trunk Road (Near Chichester) - Temporary Overnight Closures & Speed Limits

What is happening?

A27 TRUNK ROAD – NEAR CHICHESTER

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A27 Trunk Road in the County of West Sussex, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.

The effect of the Order would be:-

1)   to authorise the overnight closure of;

a)   both carriageways of the A27 between the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road and the tip of the nosing of the entry slip road at Temple Bar Interchange (A285);

b)   all the slip roads leading to and from both carriageways of the A27 at Temple Bar Interchange (A285);

2)   to impose the 24-hour 50mph speed limit on the on both carriageways of the A27 between the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road and the tip of the nosing of the entry slip road at Temple Bar Interchange (A285). These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake junction improvement works, and associated works. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 1 year starting on or after  Monday 4th May 2026. The overnight closures would take place between 21:00 and 06:00 ( maximum period ).

The Order would come into force on 2nd May 2026 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete. Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted to exit and re-enter the A27 at Temple Bar Interchange (A285) or by using other junctions on the A27. The diversion in operation would vary according to the closure in force.

The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
