Norwich - Multiple Temporary Road Closures & Restrictions Due To Various Works
What is happening?
NORFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL
Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders 2026 (Norwich) - Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984
Norfolk County Council in exercise of its powers under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, hereby give notice that:
i) They Propose To Make Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders in respect of the following roads:
Helena Road – from its junction with Dereham Road to its junction with Stafford Street to facilitate lead pipe replacement works from 13th April to 15th May 2026 (may continue until 15th November 2026).
Alternative route is via: Stafford Street, Heigham Road, Dereham Road And Vice Versa.
The Works Promoter Is Anglian Water.
Lobster Lane – from its junction with Pottergate to its junction with Exchange Street to facilitate telecoms ducting works between 09:30 and 15:30 from 14th to 15th April 2026 (may continue until 27th May 2026).
Alternative route is via: St John Maddermarket, Duke Street, St Crispins Road, Barn Road, Grapes Hill, Cleveland Road, St Giles Street, Gaol Hill, Exchange Street.
The works promoter is BT.
Lower Clarence Road – from its junction with A1242 Thorpe Road to its junction with A1242 Clarence Road to facilitate parking, loading and unloading of Coaches on 11th April 2026 (may continue until 23rd May 2026). Coaches carrying away fans attending the Norwich City FC v Ipswich Town FC football match at Carrow Road Stadium will be permitted to enter, park, load and unload on the Road.
Alternative route is via: A1242 Thorpe Road/Clarence Road.
The works promoter is Norfolk County Council.
St Leonards Road – St Leonards Road (west side of carriageway only) from 6m south of its junction with Guelph Road to 8m north of its junction with Malvern Road to facilitate trail hole maintenance for upcoming drainage works, traffic (constituting any class of vehicle) over the Road shall be temporarily prohibited to park, stop, load, and/or unload between 07:00 and 16:00 from 16th to 17th April 2026 (may continue until 29th May 2026).
Alternative route is via: N/A.
The works promoter is Norfolk County Council.
ii) They Have Made Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders in respect of the following roads:
Park Lane – from its junction with Earlham Road to its junction with Unthank Road to facilitate footway reconstruction, resurfacing and lining works from 7th April to 28th August 2026 (may continue until 6th October 2027).
Alternative route is via: Unthank Road, Earlham Road;
Alternative access route: Earlham Road and Mill Hill Road.
The works promoter is Norfolk County Council. NB: Please note that the works will be carried out in four phases:
Phase 1: Between Earlham Road and Denbigh Road.
Phase 2: Between Denbigh Road and Parker Road.
Phase 3: Between Parker Road and Mill Hill Road.
Phase 4: Between Avenue Road and Unthank Road.
Prince Of Wales Road – Prince of Wales Road (south side of carriageway only) from 70m northwest of its junction with St Vedast Street for 50m north-westwards to facilitate gas pipe repairs, traffic (constituting any class of vehicle) over the road shall be temporarily prohibited to park, stop, load, and/or unload from 8th to 10th April 2026 (may continue until 22nd May 2026).
Alternative route is via: N/A.
The works promoter is Cadent. NB: Please note that the works will take place for 24 hours within the anticipated dates period.
Prince Of Wales Road Cycle Way – Prince of Wales Road Cycle Way (south side of carriageway only) from 70m northwest of its junction with St Vedast Street for 50m north-westwards to facilitate gas pipe repairs works from 8th to 10th April 2026 (may continue until 22nd May 2026).
Alternative route is via: N/A. Cyclists are asked to dismount.
The works promoter is Cadent. NB: Please note that the works will take place for 24 hours within the anticipated dates period.
Waverley Road – from its junction with Camberley Road for 30m north-eastwards to facilitate vent stack removal works between 07:30 on 7th April and 17:00 on 9th April 2026 (may continue until 21st May 2026).
Alternative route is via: Waverley Road, Branksome Road, Newmarket Road, Claremont Road and vice versa.
The works promoter is Anglian Water.
NB: Please note that the works will take place for 24 hours within the anticipated dates period.
Unless otherwise stated, the effect of these Orders will be to prohibit the use by traffic of the named road(s)/ footpath(s). In the event of the start date being delayed the new start date will be displayed on site in advance. Where an Order is for a reason other than works it is because of the likelihood of danger to the public or of serious damage to the road/footpath.
Anticipated dates are stated but the Orders may continue until the end date where necessary or required.
The Orders are revoked on the end date or on the actual date of removal of the prohibition/restriction where earlier without further notice.
If necessary, the restrictions can have a maximum duration of 18 months or 6 months in respect of footpaths, cycle paths, bridleways, restricted byways, and byways open to all traffic (BOAT).
Penalty: £1000 maximum fine on conviction and/or endorsement for contravention.
