(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND
PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M55 Motorway, in the City of Preston, in the County of
Lancashire, to enable resurfacing, road markings and stud replacement works and other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety. The Order will on the following sections of the M55 Motorway:
i. impose a 50-mph speed limit on the westbound carriageway, from the Dagger
Road Bridge to the Bradshaw Bridge; ii. impose a 50-mph speed limit on the westbound exit and entry slip roads at J3;
iii. ban all traffic from the westbound exit slip road at J3;
iv. allow the hard shoulder adjacent to the westbound carriageway as described in i. above to be used as a running lane. A 50 mph speed limit will be in force on the hard shoulder when used as a running lane, as indicated by traffic signs.
Restrictions i.-ii. are expected to be in place during a continuous period, starting at 19:00 on Monday 11 May 2026 and ending at 06:00 Friday 12 June 2026.
Restriction iv. and prohibition iii. are expected to be in place overnight, between 19:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Monday 11 May 2026 and ending on Friday 12 June 2026.
However, work may start and continue during subsequent continuous periods, or on subsequent nights until completed.
Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the M55 Motorway and local roads will be well signed. The restriction will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibition will not apply to emergency services or works vehicles. The restriction and prohibition will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall, from time to time, be indicated by traffic signs.
