SECTION 14(1) OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984
Notice is hereby given that the Wiltshire Council intends to make an Order to close temporarily to all users:
a) Footpath 18 (Part), Purton; from its junction with Footpath 20, Purton to its junction with Bremham Lane.
b) Footpath 19 (Part), Purton; from its junction with Footpath 20, Purton to its junction with Bremham Lane.
c) Footpath 20 (Part), Purton; from its junction with Footpath 23, Purton for a distance of approximately 170m in a north easterly direction.
Footpath 23, Purton; from its junction with Footpath 20, Purton to its junction with Footpath 19, Purton to enable the works involve the preparation of the ground and construction of a solar farm. This will involve extensive use of heavy machinery to prepare the ground, the importation of many tons of solar panels using HGVs, internal movements to move the individual panels around the site to the required location, and the installation of the panels in situ, which will involve significant vehicle movements. Electrical connection and other infrastructure will also be needed. The solar panel areas will also require security fencing to fence them off from public access. Once the footpaths are fenced off, it may be possible to re-open these across the site, with designated plant crossing points in place to allow the PROW network to re-open and remain functional for the remainder of the construction period. A construction management and safety plan will be provided by the contractors, and they will be responsible for maintaining these crossing points/public safety throughout the works. The decision on whether the footpaths can be reopened ahead of the completion of solar panel installation will rest with the Principal Contractor responsible for Health and Safety. Alternative route via existing highways and public rights of way. The closure and diversion route will be clearly indicated by traffic signs. This Order will come into operation on 01 May 2026 and it is anticipated that the closure will be required until 31 October 2026. Access will be maintained where possible although delays are likely due to the nature of the works.
