What is happening?

The County Council of Durham
(Public Rights of Way, Footpath No.5 Seaton with Slingley Parish,
Footpath Number 4 and Bridleway No. 5 Murton Parish, Seaton and Murton Areas) (Temporary Footpath and Bridleway Closure) Order 2026

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of footpath and bridleway, 1.a 545 metre length of Footpath Number 5 Seaton with Slingley Parish that extends between the Hawthorn to Ryhope Railway Path and Slingley Hill South. 2.a 575 metre length of Bridleway Number 5 Murton Parish that extends west from the Hawthorn to Ryhope Railway Path. 3.a 565 metre length of Footpath Number 4 Murton Parish that extends south and west from Bridleway 5 Murton to enable engineering works in association with a new electricity supply cable installation works to be undertaken. An alternative route will be available to traffic from the eastern side of the closure from Hawthorn-Ryhope Railway Path south westerly to Murton then westerly along B1285 and north north-easterly on Salters Lane to Brildeway 13 Hetton, or continuing north then east, south, east, south and east at Slingley Hill to Footpath 5 Seaton to the western side of the closures, and vice versa. The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The proposed works are required from 29/4/2026 and for the duration of the works anticipated to be around 2 months. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
