ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14
THE A1 TRUNK ROAD
(MARSHALL MEADOWS TO EAST ORD ROUNDABOUT)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A1 Trunk Road, in the County of Northumberland, to enable street lighting and electrical works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start at 8pm on Friday 1 May 2026 for 3 months, or until completed.

The effect of the Order will be, between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works, to:

(i)      close the A1 southbound carriageway from a point 50 metres north of Conundrum Farm Junction to a point 220 metres south of Low Cocklaw Junction, a distance of 2250 metres;

(ii)     close the A1 northbound and southbound carriageways from East Ord Roundabout to Highfields Roundabout, a distance of 3930 metres;

(iii)    close the A1 Highfields Roundabout;

(iv)    close the A1 northbound carriageway from Highfields Roundabout to Conundrum Farm Junction, a distance of 536 metres; During which times traffic will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway using a contraflow system;

(v)     close the A1 southbound carriageway from Conundrum Farm Junction to Highfields Roundabout, a distance of 542 metres; During which times traffic will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway using a contraflow system; and

(vi)    ban vehicles from entering or leaving the A1 northbound and southbound carriageways at its junctions with Low Cocklaw, Duns Road, Castle Terrace, Conundrum Farm and Paxton.

It will also be necessary, for 24 hours a day, for the duration of the works, to:

(vii)   impose a temporary 40mph speed restriction on the A1 northbound carriageway from Paxton Junction to 300 metres north of Conundrum Farm Junction, a distance of 3100 metres;

(viii)  impose a temporary 40mph speed restriction on the A1 southbound carriageway from 352 metres north of Marshall Meadows Junction to Paxton Junction, a distance of 3130 metres;

(ix)    impose a temporary 40mph and 10mph speed restriction on Highfields Roundabout;

(x)     impose a temporary 10mph speed restriction on A1 northbound carriageway from 220 metres south of Low Cocklaw Junction to 50 metres north of Conundrum Farm Junction, a distance of 2210 metres;

(xi)    impose a temporary 10mph speed restriction on the A1 southbound carriageway from 50 metres north of Conundrum Farm Junction to  220 metres south of Low Cocklaw Junction, a distance of 2250 metres;

(xii)   close the layby adjacent to the A1 southbound carriageway approximately 120 metres north of Low Cocklaw Junction; and

(xiii)  close the bus stop layby adjacent to the A1 southbound carriageway approximately 165 metres south of Conundrum Farm Junction. The 10mph limit will only apply when, for safety reasons, traffic has to be escorted through the works by a highway maintenance vehicle.

Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). Access will be maintained at all times to premises and properties which are accessible from, and only from, the A1. The Order comes into force on  30 April 2026 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.

THE A1 TRUNK ROAD (HAGGERSTON CASTLE)
(TEMPORARY 40 MILES PER HOUR SPEED RESTRICTION)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A1 Trunk Road, in the County of Northumberland, to enable electrical repair and maintenance works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start at 9pm on Thursday 30 April 2026 for  1 night, or until completed, and will take place between 9pm and 5am. The effect of the Order will be, at times during the works, to impose temporary 40mph speed restriction on the A1 trunk road between 160 metres south and 891 metres south of its junction with Haggerston Castle Holiday Park; a distance of 731 metres.

Traffic management will be in force and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restriction (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles). The Order comes into force on the 29 April 2026 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
