What is happening?
THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (SHIELDS ROAD 20MPH SPEED LIMIT ZONE AND PROHIBITION OF WAITING) TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 20--
NOTICE is given that Sunderland City Council propose to make an Order under Sections 1, 2, 4, 84 and 122 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 by virtue of the Traffic Management Act 2004 as amended and all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 of the Act. The effects of the proposed Order will be to: (i) Prohibit waiting at any time along the roads in Schedule 1; and (ii) Introduce a 20mph speed limit zone along the lengths of roads in Schedule 2.
Documents giving more detailed particulars of the Order may be inspected during normal opening hours at City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA, until six weeks have elapsed from the date on which the Order is made or, as the case may be, the Council decides not to proceed to make the Order. . Objections to and other representations relating to the Order must be made in writing to E. Waugh, Assistant Director of Law and Governance at City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA or via email at: statutoryorders
on or before the 1st May 2026 and any objection must state the grounds on which it is made. Please quote reference: PB/83298 in all correspondence. Schedule 1 No Waiting At Any Time: Shields Road (spine road) both sides from a point 14.1 metres west of the eastern highway boundary located 18.1 metres south of the extended party property boundary of 6 and 8 Shields Road, for a distance of 10.0 metres in an easterly direction. Schedule 2 20 MPH Speed Limit Zone: (i) Dovedale Road from a point 23.8 metres west of its intersection with the extended party property boundary of 141 & 143 Dovedale Road, to its western extent. (ii) Shields Road (spine road) for its entire length.
