London Borough of Southwark - Union Street - temporary suspension of parking pay and display bay, temporary cycle hire parking place restriction

What is happening?

LONDON BOROUGH OF SOUTHWARK ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 SECTION 14(1) (UNION STREET) (TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF PARKING PAY AND DISPLAY BAY, TEMPORARY CYCLE HIRE PARKING PLACE RESTRICTION)     

1. The Council of the London Borough of Southwark hereby gives notice that to improve pedestrian safety, it intends to temporarily introduce and temporarily remove restrictions detailed in section 2 of this order in the carriageway on Union Street.

2. The effect of the order is to (a) prohibit parking, stopping, waiting and loading of all vehicles except dockless hire bikes and dockless hire escooters in the locations described in the schedule of this order. (b) temporarily introduce parking bays for the sole use of dockless hire bikes and escooters as detailed in the schedule of this order.

3. When road markings and signs are in place, no person shall cause a vehicle except dockless hire bikes and hire escooters to park in the locations detailed in section (b) of the schedule of this order.

4. The restrictions would not apply to any vehicle being used in connection with the operation of the order, or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes or anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform.

5. The temporary traffic order will be in operation from the 17th of April 2026 until the 16th of October 2027.
